Country pub, big beer garden. Local beer on cask. Really good food menu from sandwiches and snacks to full on roast. Homemade puddings on the menu too. Dog friendly inside and out. Great customer service. Clean and well kept. Enjoyed our food outside in the winter sun and staff made us feel really welcome. Try the homemade cheese cake it's really good.
My other half and I came here for a Valentines Date. We have been driving past this pub for 2 years saying we really should go here and I have to say we weren't disappointed. Atmosphere- The first thing is the decor, it has a very warm and homey atmosphere. It does have a very unique vibe. I checked for dust in various locations and beyond an absolutely normal level, I was hard pressed to find anything substantial. This pub FOH certainly appears cleaned well. Another aspect I liked was the ability for people to bring their dogs in. I love a Pub/Free House that is welcoming to our four legged friends. I know some people get very annoyed by this but I don't so it added to the general mood having them calmly go around. The food- I had no issue with anything served. I had the Prawns starter and the Bacon and Cheese Burger Yes, not very creative choices haha The Prawns and the Salad served with it tasted fresh and not frozen which is a big sin a lot of places commit. The Burger had very nice Beef and wasn't too greasy which too often is the case at other establishments. The Staff- We felt welcomed and there was an attentiveness to our needs. We came in and got welcomed, once seated we ordered our food and even after serving they would frequently check if everything was okay and check up on us. Going back to my comparison a lot of other places will seat you and as soon as you get your food they will forget about you and prioritise new customers coming in. It made it feel like even after they had our money they still cared that we enjoyed the food and made sure we didn't need anything else. To the staff both FOH and Kitchen thank you for enabling a nice evening. We enjoyed our visit and will return in the future.
Visited 14 Dec 22 as we were passing and wanted lunch. Very friendly and helpful chap called Connor behind the bar. He seemed to be working the bar on his own. He showed us to a table straight away - we were given options of where we could sit. We were also given menus, including festive one and told about exceptions and specials, etc.. We ordered drinks, and I had the plum porter from a local brewery - Kissingate. It was divine. We ordered the turkey dinner, and this was served to us pretty quickly. It was all served inside a large Yorkshire pudding, and the portion was very generous. We also had a dessert, which was also served quickly. It was nice and tasty, and the veg were not cooked to a mush, which was nice. The atmosphere was nice, there was a nice open fire and the place was nicely decorated for Christmas. Pretty good value, too, with 2 2-course Christmas meals and drinks coming in at just over £50. From our experience, we will visit again and recommend this place to others.
Been promising ourselves a visit for far too long. Finally did so and not disappointed by the lunchtime visit. The gardens are great with a vine canopy if you wish some shade. The food was good and plentiful. Options for gluten free are also available. Worth a visit!!
Beautiful pub ,lovely attentive friendly staff ,highly recommend English pub in a delightful location
Proper country pub with an absolutely amazing interior, friendly staff and great beer.
We stopped for some food at this pub due to being in the area for the Leonardlees light show which I also highly recommend and the pub was an absolute gem of a find! Even if the food hadn't been as good as it was, I would still give 5 stars anyway for the exemplary customer service by the young gentleman serving us, he is a massive credit to employers and really made us feel welcome. The food was great and generously portioned, and we were sat right by the cosy fire. The pub was vegan friendly, family friendly, dog friendly and the food was delicious! A well deserved 5 stars all round, we will definitely return another time.
We had a Christmas dinner here, 2 courses, what lovely friendly staff, nice warm cosy pub, and the meal was delicious. We will go again!
Food was great fresh cooked to order good size portion staff helpful and recommended for our next visit was the liver & bacon or fish and chips which will take photos of and upload. Thank you for 2 brilliant meals again on our 2nd visit
Great quirky and cosy pub. Brilliant atmosphere. Friendly and welcoming staff. Lovely and warm fire. They have a dog and a bird in there too which is always entertaining and adds to the character of a pub! Food was great and good drink selection and prices. Will definitely be back, wish it was walking distance to my house!!!
