You know what? I'm giving 4 stars for everything. To me, a Toby carvery is what it is - cheap and cheerful and that would put some people off, but...... I went on a Monday afternoon, just catching up with a friend after all the Christmas whoha. We ended up spending over 3 hours! The atmosphere was nice and relaxed, even though it was fairly busy. The waitresses were attentive without being intrusive and I have to admit, I enjoyed my turkey roast dinner better than my meal on Christmas day! The turkey was lovely. There was every accompaniment you could want - which was great for my veggie friend as well. When we had finished eating and were still chatting, I looked around and there were so many people just doing what we were - chilling out after a good meal! Young, old families, couples - it was lovely. Only two issues to mention: the coffee wasn't the best for a coffee fan and the lighting in places was quite poor, but none of this took away from a very pleasant afternoon. Cheap and Cheerful - there's nothing wrong with that.....
Overall, a slightly disappointing experience but the staff members who we interacted with were lovely. We had a table booked at 7pm, and were almost turned away but the waitress explained to another staff member that we had booked so we were allowed in. People behind us were turned away and the carvery ended up being beef only, as the turkey and gammon was used up. I don't like beef much, but wanted something as well as veg there was very little mash too so I got beef. Everything else was fine, service was good and drinks were nice, but couldn't help feel a bit like staff were stressed as they obviously knew about the food situation. They were very friendly however and I put this experience down to being a one off. Vegetarian options: Veg carvery available Kid-friendliness: Children we saw seemed happy here, playing and having a good time Parking: Good parking, bit hard to find entrance
It's great value for money and the Yorkshire pudding was a nice touch and their big selling point. The food was rich but not iverly greasy. It opened slightly later than opening time and staffing was a bit slim. The staff worked really hard to ensure we were cared for. The tall glass of juice is a lot, so you can get away with buying one and sharing with another person. Will definitely visit the chain again for breakfast. Kid-friendliness: It's got some cheap toy machines that kids will enjoy, even if it's just for a moment or 2. The are a good height and there is enough space for a wiggly 3 year old, though they have plenty high chairs If you prefer. Parking: Plenty parking with decent margins so you don't have to squeeze in.
Awful experience here. Waited over 25 mins for food all whilst manager moaned to another manager about all of their staff and how she hates that they swap shifts. Proceeded to give me cold food .Avoid. Have a look at the video for how thin the gravy was...absolutely vile. Rung up the restaurant to complain who then wanted me to come back in to go through the same experience again. No thanks.
Had a lovely visit yesterday evening, the restaurant was extremely busy but the staff didn’t let this affect the service provided. I would like to thank my server, Sophie, who took the time to explain everything to me despite it being so busy. Food was both delicious and hot, as well as the desserts we opted for. Will definitely be returning.
The welcome was great and the cleanliness and comfort of the venue fantastic. However, the service at the carvery was very slow, with huge queues and a lack of attentiveness from the kitchen staff. We had to wait a long time to be served, ordered pigs in blankets which went cold as we waited in the queue. A member of kitchen staff came out to serve themselves without acknowledgement of the waiting customers. We also had no ice cream available for desserts, and when we ordered whipped cream with cakes we received standard cream which was incorrect. It was busy, but the lack of attentiveness was very disappointing and I did not get value for the family meal.
Some food items not available, what was available was overcooked & dry or swimming in fat. Staff & managers too busy playing with staff members child not professional. Had to start turning customers away. Staff member pulled face when asked for a discount. Not a good experience this morning.
Pork was very tough, beef was fatty, turkey and gammon were good, hardly any vegetables or not presented on the night, the carrots were mushy, the peas were perfect, cauliflower should’ve been changed, I felt it a bit cold, roast potatoes were not available when I came to select them, they took ages to come out !! Their wasn’t any stuffing, as this too was in the back kitchen and not in the front.. Brilliant floor staff but a dull chef Carver.. All in all over the years I’ve been to a Toby I would say 50% it’s been very good.. Vegetarian options: Plenty of veg, vegetarian gravy, just needs perhaps a vegetarian alternate to meat
Had a quick carvery here at lunchtime during the half term break. It was around half full. Just off M61. Decent size car park. Typical Toby set up. Food really good quality. Staff friendly but did feel like they were understaffed or undertrained Lots of tables left uncleaned, servers running around, hard to get ones attention. Still an enjoyable lunch.
We go here regularly for breakast, and we've noticed a decline in the last 6 months. Today was the worst however. Items missing of the hotplate scrambled eggs, Yorkshire puddings. Fried eggs and plates kept running out. Watched lots of customers waiting because of these points. It was like the cook couldn't be bothered. In fact, we heard him complaining to another customer about the kitchen being cold and that he didn't want to go into it. That would certainly account for the aforementioned food items running out. Honestly, I can't recommend this place. We keep giving it "another chance" because we like going out for breakfast and its handy for us, but not sure how many more chances we'll give it. If any.
