Lovely pub, friendly staff and delicious food ! We stopped by with my partner and our dog for a quick bite after a nice walk. And the food was delicious and arrived promptly.we have had the Camembert bites and the scallops & prawns starters the prawns were not king prawns but it did taste good. As a main, I have had the Caesar salad with some chicken and my partner had the fish and chips. Generous portions and reasonable prices. We will be back
I visited here at the weekend on Sunday for my birthday with some family. We easily booked a table online a few days before. We were 5 minutes early arriving, was acknowledged within 2 minutes of entering the premises and promptly seated with menus. Our drinks order was taken after 5 minutes of perusing the menu, and whilst they were being prepared, about 5 minutes later we were asked if we were ready to order food or needed more time, but we were ready. The menus have a good choice range, but we had checked online in advance, so all knew pretty much what we wanted. The lady took our orders, our drinks arrived and around 20 minutes later our food arrived. It was all well presented and looked really yummy, and we all really enjoyed our choices. The lady serving us came to check we were happy with our food about 5 minutes in and asked if we wanted any more drinks or anything else. After we had all finished, our plates were promptly cleared away and we were asked if we wanted any desserts. That was also cleared away promptly and we were asked if there was anything else we would like or just the bill, so no waiting around to catch anyone's attention, they were on it. A very pleasant experience, very friendly and attentive staff, we will definitely visit there again. Outside is lovely by the Trent Lock Canal and River. The inside was clean and tidy. We visited at 1pm on a Sunday, it was fairly busy but not heaving, maybe 50-75% full. We would definitely recommend coming here for food and/or drinks. The customers sat near us all seemed happy with their food and it all looked delicious.
Lovely pub in a lovely location. Plenty of parking and quite easy to get to by car. The perfect place to stop on a nice long canal walk/bike ride. Dog friendly and with a huge beer garden, with a pleasant covered seating area outside. A nice selection of beers but only one cider on tap Aspall which might upset cider fans - plenty of other fruity ciders in bottles though. The inside of the pub is lovely, although if the weather’s nice you’ll probably only be going inside to visit the bar or the toilets!
It all started when I Phoned up, automated booking system was easy to book a table! Had to amend booking from 4pm to 3pm, pub could accommodate us and was great. Asked if the pub is dog friendly, which it is in the bar area and outside seating area. But in the restaurant side it isn't, so we decided to not bring the dog this time. When we arrived there were 6 staff and 1 supervisor. We were left standing around for about 5 or 10 minutes but it did feel forever standing around not knowing if we were to be seated down by a staff member or if we were to put on our exploring boots and hunt down our booked table.. The supervisor was polite qnd explained the restaurant was a bit hectic at the moment and we said it was ok, that we understood. there were 2 other tables in the entire pub so I'm guessing the hectic period had already happened and they were recovering, or there was something happening in their outside barn. After being shown to our table the supervisor explained that Phoebe Would come and take our drink order. We asked if they would recommend any gins and Phoebe couldn't recommend any other than saying that they had a lot of gin. Our dinner guest who had been before suggested the blood orange Gin so that's what I ordered. We ordered the calamari and patte for starters and they both looked incredible! So our main food finally arrived after quite a bit of waiting and my son's pizza looked amazing, our dinner guests chicken pie looked great, although we had to ask for some gravy to go a long with it. My wife had the pork belly and it looked and smelled amazing! There was quite a bit of waiting going on for Phoebe to bring out the last dish, my Hunters chicken schnitzel, and when she finally emerged it was with bad news. Somehow from me ordering the meal at the table, to Phoebe inputting the order into her iPad, to the kitchen receipt printing in theie kitchen... That hunter chicken disappeared and I am left plateless... Queue sad violin music... It finally arrived!!! And wow, I wish it didn't :. Chips were undercooked as if the chef had literally dunked them in a fryer just to put some heat on them. Still raw in the middle, at least it's the potato chips and not the chicken . Speaking of the chicken it was really nice, Cooked beautifully! Just a shame it came out late on a rushed plate.. So finished our meals and sat for 20 minutes wiatinf for someone to come clear down the table and offer some desert menus... Instead I had to flag down the supervisor and ask her myself, this whole Trent Lock experience is shaping to not be a nice experience.. Whilst we look at the deserts menu, the supervisor comes down to the table behind us and says that one of their meals hasn't been cooked either!! Mental! Ok "be right back in 2 minutes to take your desert order" just turned into waiting 15 minutes... There are now 4 tables... What is going on? Just had to flag down said supervisor who clearly didn't like to be inturupted... 10 more minutes later and still waiting for our deserts, we have now resorted to playing penny football across the table to keep our 5 year old entertained... Ok we got there and the deserts have arrived! This absolute MARATHON of what we thought would be a quick lunch is almost over! The banoffee pie desert I had was Incredible! My son enjoyed his brownie, but what 5 year old wouldn't?! Our dinner guest enjoyed their sticky toffee pudding, but it's hard to not like sticky toffee pudding! Edit: my son's chocolate brownie had been thrown into a microwave which burnt the entire underside of it...NOT GOOD! All in all, this experience has completely changed my view on this pub. I'm trying to figure out why? What has changed so drastically? Last time I was here it was perfect and I had recommended this restaurant plenty of times because of that. Now.... Now I wouldnt recommend this restaurant to anyone and I'm thinking I may have some apology letters to write to friends and family... Total time to have a late lunch for 3 people and a 5 year old: 2 hours 35 minutes.
We called in today whilst on a walk. Myself, mum, dad and my 2 year old. Sat outside in the winter sun table 103 and was served and waited on by a lovely young man. We didn’t get his name as he didn’t have a badge but he was young, with long hair and glasses. He was so friendly and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble for him. You could tell he actually enjoyed and cared about his job. The food was gorgeous! Just enough and was quick to be served. We all had empty plates. Some of the best chips I’ve ever had! Not to mention the hot chocolate too Will definitely be returning. Thank you.
When we visited it was very quiet at this magnificent sight with the very romantic view of the river. The scenery with its just unaurpassable english countryside feeling is enchanting. The service was excellent and the feeling was more like being at a place that one is well known and highly appreciated rather than a simple pub. The food is very generous in quantity and verybgood in quality and we enjoyed the freshly baked garlic flatbread and the mushrooms. I think that this is a place well worth visiting in the heart of East Midlands and it will definitely be a favourite with us.
Thought we were going to the back of beyond but what a gem!!! Dog friendly. Great food and service. Nothing to fault . You definitely need to try this pub. It is one of the best I have been to
Horrendous experience!!! Cheap tasteless food !! Shocking customer service!!! Following a family Christmas meal this week we were shocked to receive such awful service and food. Massive waste of money…..Having followed up our complaint with management we have received NO form of compensation or solution to our emails other than a “Welcome back” and our feedback being noted.!!

On the night - we were told the Christmas menu would be available over the phone twice! Got there and told it wasn’t on and had to be off main menu with choice of a few special off the board.

Painfully slow service!!! Restaurant and bar SUPER quiet - lack of attention and atmosphere played to our table. Had to remind the waitress about crackers on the table. Food chucked on the plate, food didn’t come out at the same time on any course. Simple lack of details , no butter or lemon on prawn cocktails. Hard overcooked hallumi fries. Over cooked veg, tasteless veg wellington - for saying this is a “special” is was like something out of Iceland !! Tomato sauce was awful , tangy and watery! See image Nearly £15 for this ! Steaks not cooked as asked and given 2 small steaks not the size of one as stated on the menu.

Bar staff tried their hardest but couldn’t give discount for this over all BAD experience such a shame as our family love it here as it holds many dear memories….Very very disappointing and such a shame.

Don’t go safe your money.! You’re better off eating at home. I wish we had. As now we won’t get this time back. The whole reason for this family meal was because we won’t be together at Christmas this year. Left a very very sour taste in our mouths!!

Such an unacceptable and unenjoyable experience.

Never again!!!
Staff friendly, ambience nice although needed to get attention to get any service. Waited an hour for food after chasing the staff for meal. When food came, daughters food was nice, but the three meat carvery me and my wife got was cold to luke warm, the "crackling" wasn't existent and the turkey was dry.
Lovely place the Landlady is so warm and welcoming. The menu has a fabulous selection of food. Fantastic outdoor seating area, undercover too. It's also dog friendly and has a water and treat station for your furbabies. Highly recommend it. Also if your a boater like me you can moor up on the door step for 3 days . Fantastic place.
