I recently hired the function room at Tawny Owl Pub for a birthday party, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience! From start to finish, the entire team was incredible. The staff were friendly, professional, and went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly. The function room was perfect—spacious, well-decorated, and with all the amenities we needed to host a memorable celebration. The food and drinks were fantastic, and the atmosphere was just right for a fun and relaxed evening. I highly recommend the Tawny Owl Pub for any event—truly a fantastic venue with an amazing team. A five-star experience all around!
The room was super clean and comfortable for 3 people , there was a rock band playing in the pub below but we couldn’t hear any noise, very well isolated and quiet for a good rest after being in the road the whole day.nThe pub food delicious and very good value for money.nI would definitely come back if I’m travelling to the Cotswolds again.
Good and bad points.n+ I went for Rock and Roll bingo night with friends and had a lovely time.n+ 8oz double cheeseburger with chips was excellent. Everyone else had good sized meals.n+ drinks were excellent.n+ staff were excellent and kept the night going smoothly in the busy bar area and keeping our tables tidy. Well done.n- Their loudspeakers were rubbish, with high pitches playing all night and no good sound / no bass during the music that plays for the bingo.n- Their loudspeakers kept making extremely loud interference noises when the bingo host was talking. Good luck if you end up sitting near the speaker. n- Not sure how easy it is to get to. Couldn't see anything about buses on their contacts page. I telephoned for a 701 cab from close to Swindon town centre area and it was £11.50.n- I can't comment on the rooms as I didn't stay over. I live in the town centre area.n+ I would still come back here. Its a good place.
A family event for Mother's Day. A table of 11, but despite pre-ordering the food, it was 45 minutes late after our table booked was for 2pm. Our Mum who is diabetic started to feel extremely unwell waiting for the late food. When it eventually arrived it was very disappointing. The beef was so tough as was the stuffing and the potatoes were hard - no trimmings as promised by the menu - basics like horseradish sauce with the beef or apple sauce with roast pork. Vegetables were sparse, mushy as overcooked and very unpleasant. The vegan chilli, was then a further 10/15 minute wait after the roasts and despite being advertised on the menu as having rice & nachos, they were only available with nachos or chips. We cancelled the puddings we'd ordered as so disappointed. A sorry when we complained, a half hearted apology, but no recompense. We paid in full, but a terrible meal for a special occasion and won't be returning. A Mother's Day meal we shall not be remembering. My Mum couldn't eat all her meal as mostly feeling ill having waited for the food for so long. Wouldn't recommend.nCelebrating Mother's Day meal is important to us given our dear Mum is 84 years, but sadly this wasn't value for money. Not even a discount offered for poor food and service. Will be complaining to Arkells too.
Had been here a number of times before but didn't enjoy any of our visits maninly due to the owner being rude and not welcoming. Each time we visited, we saw customers complaining about the food which was met with stern replies from the owner. I have never eaten here, so I can't comment on food, but i will also nere eat here. Heard it was under new ownership, and some areas had been refurbished. We decided to drop in for an early Friday evening drink. So disappointed, every single table was reserved!!! There is nowhere to sit at all. I heard many people complaining and leaving. Some walked in, looked around, and walked out again. Come on, sort it out! I get rock n roll bingo on a friday, maybe be popular, but at least have some unreserved areas. This could be such a great pub, but we won't be returning. There is a comfy lounge area, but the sofas and seats are ripped and tatty. Arkells, you need to get a grip. This is the same in another pub of yours, the strawberry thief, all seeing reserved in advance and nowhere for drop in customers to sit.
