I popped in on my way home from Alexandra Palace. It had been a long time since my last visit, so I was shocked by the £11:00 price for a large glass of wine. Although it was a touch above the usual pub plonk. I didn't eat here, but clearly the venue is now more gastro than pint n pizza. If you like the feel of wood in your pub, then this is the place. The centrally positioned bar is also a good feature.
I came for a quiet meal and found the staff to be friendly, which was a positive start. However, the food did not meet expectations. The lamb rump was very small, and the potatoes and vegetables were cold. It's a shame, as I was really looking forward to enjoying my meal.Food: 1/5
The food was decent. I had the hake, nicely cooked. My spouse had the seafood pasta and said it was excellent, with plenty of prawns. Calamari was v good quality too, not too greasy. We had to chase up our drinks order and were advised that actually it is best to order drinks directly, not through the app with our food. Worth knowing because the app does invite you to order drinks. The cocktails looked amazing, sadly we weren't drinking booze today. Lovely atmosphere inside, a proper London pub feel.
We had our wedding reception at the Starting gate and we couldn't have been more pleased with the staff, food and atmosphere. Everyone was so accommodating and made an effort to help our celebration feel special. We'd 100% recommend for anyone looking for a place to host a private event. Food: 5/5
Visited here for a meal and drinks. The food was excellent and very tasty. Beer choices were good too. Really good value for money and not at all pricey.Food: 5/5
Had dinner before a show at the Ally Pally Theatre this week and right opposite the station this is ideally located for pre-theatre. Really lovely staff and the service was very quick. We all had drinks and a main meal. We tried the pie, steak and fish and chips which all went down well. Feedback wise the acoustics in the dining area is not great and with some loud tables and music over the top it was quite disorienting. This is definitely more pub than restaurant so depends on the vibe you're after.
It has taken me far too long to write this! But I can't fault this place. My friend and I decided to eat here after a stressful train journey. It was warm and welcoming, and there were tables available. From the start, we were served by Sophie. This girl went above and beyond! My friend has an array of serious allergies and and Sophie went through every item with us and personally spoke to the chef to put our minds at ease. Even when our food arrived and we weren't sure about a sauce, Sophie still went and double-checked for us! Most importantly for us, Sophie didn't make my friend feel any different. It was no hassle and and she was so patient with us. We can not thank Sophie enough!!! We were also served by the manager and another server who did our drinks, and they were both brilliant! The food was also very tasty and arrived hot and quickly! When we are in that area again, we will definitely be returning. Thank you!!! Dietary restrictions: They had an extensive catalogue of allergies/dietary restrictions readily available.
Not been to “the gate” for many years after being a former regular but I’m glad to say it has lost none of its charm and friendliness. Very nice staff and reasonably priced drinks. Didn’t eat as we had a previously planned engagement but the adjacent table said it was very nice. We’ll definitely eat next time we are in London.Service: 5/5
We were there on our way to an event. It started with my having to clear and clean our table. I then placed our order via the app on the table but when I paid it referred to a different pub. The staff were completely unhelpful with trying to resolve the issue even though they acknowledged there was an issue and just ignored us. We had to replace our order and were left to sort out the issue with the other pub which is 20 mins walk away. They have said we have to physically be at that pub to resolve it - yet they can easily take your money. Menu and food prices exactly the same for apparently both pubs! How does this even happen when you scan the link they provide on the table!!!!!! Food was lovely but service awful. Staff so unhelpful. Will not be returning.
The food was boring and even sub par, they only had about 3 "craft" beers on tap and they were all from major breweries, otherwise it was trendy and insipid lagers. Everything else was off. The staff were the real problem. They swanned around not really doing anything. We ordered drinks via the app and they lost them. We went to the bar to get them and it took about 15 minutes in an otherwise quiet pub on a Saturday afternoon. Pubs shouldn't be rushed but they should at least try.
