Such a lovely pub for an afternoon meal and pint. The food was delicious and great portion sizes. The pub and toilets felt clean and the staff were very friendly. Great to see tasty veggie and vegan options. Thoroughly enjoyed the two white fluffy dogs in residence too!
What a friendly pub! For the three days we were in Lewes this became a home away from home. The highlights were for me, the really excellent pint of Guinness and for my wife the perfectly cooked Greens. Probably worth mentioning that it’s very dog-friendly too.
Very nicely decorated pub ruined by staff, price for portion size and quality of food on the day. Turned up at 3pm on Sunday. As soon as we walked in we noticed an older lady behind the bar with a bad attitude being rude to customers. We thought we'd still give it a try. We sat in the front garden for a while, until a young chef comes out swearing and angry presumably about work conditions as he cleared tables. So we moved to the back garden as this made us uncomfortable. We then went to order food. However, we were served by the older lady landlord? who was visibly 'fed up' and a little rude. She mentioned ''depends on what we've got left'', when we asked what we could order as a lot of things were off the menu. When we ordered there was no 'thank you or take a seat it'll be out soon!''. She just took the payment and walked off rudely. Really bad attitude and is my pet hate. This alone ensures i'll never return. The quiche was a small pizza slice for £15 with chips, the deep fried brie? was totally overcooked and was just deep fried breadcrumb. Looks like a nice pub but totally let down by staff and food quality on the day.
Dog Friendly & Far from the madding crowd! My go-to when was living in Lewes! And despite moving away it still is! Staff is always super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. On the tap - Lewes staple Harvey's Best Bitter along with several changing more-or-less local craft beers! For the more adventurous, you can get some nice German bottled beer - not only Erdinger but also less known ones! Spirits of mercy! Local and specialty gin is on so as Whiskey and Whisky! Food is always scrumptious and even when it's busy the waiting times are not too bad! They have slightly tweaked their decor - fret not! It's still quirky and steeped in history! They've just added some steampunk bits and pieces and it looks even better! The location is fantastic too! The Very last Pub in Lewes, upon Ouse and underneath the cliff. It's much quieter there, far from the madding crowd, with two fenced off beer gardens. The back one is slightly on the hill amongst trees and plants and feels very private with a view of the imposing Cliff. Couldn't recommend more!
Delicious food and a nice vibe. Just a short stroll down from the main street and well worth it! Chat beer with the Manager, try the Reishi mushroom brewed non-alcoholoc beer, the rothaus non-alcoholic beer. And definitely the cod and leek pie. Wow. Absolutely delicious. And the BBQ pork ribs, perhaps not at the same time as they are generous servings. And the fries.. excellent stuff.
Had a lovely Sunday lunch here. Limited choice for vegans but the menu is limited so you could fresh, tasty food. We all enjoyed what we ordered surrounded with quirky decor and interesting beers on tap. Will go ahead
Stumbled in to this pub for lunch today. Great atmosphere, service and food beautifully cooked at reasonable price and varied menu. Owner is friendly and welcoming. Dog friendly too. Five hungry customers all left very happy. Thank you Vegetarian options: Varied menu. Parking: Near car parks but has parking on street outside.
Fantastic experience today, the landlord and his team warmly welcomed us on a Sunday afternoon without a booking and two young kids in tow. The pub is beautiful and very well decorated, the staff are so friendly and attentive and the food was incredible - best roast we have ever had and we have been on a mission for quite a while searching! Thank you for such an excellent respite and amazing food! Kid-friendliness: Very kind and welcoming considering we had two noisy children, all staff immediately made us feel very comfortable
The bar staff were great however the chef was a disgrace. After we complained about the ridiculously small serving size, the wait staff offered to change our order which we were happy to do but the the chef came out to our table and said he didn't have time to cook another meal, it was 7pm on a Saturday night so 2 of us missed out on eating. It was a lovely looking pub let down an obnoxious chef
Lovely pub, but if you have a dog that is nervous, worth knowing that the owner has two dogs that wander around off lead - and the owner is not interested in the effect this has on you or your dog. Otherwise - friendly staff and good beer.
