This place enjoys an excellent position. You have the beautiful reminants of the old mill on which it's built. The animated river just outside, with 'Guy's Cliff' to be viewed just a few metres away. The food is just OK. It is not the most flavoursome best prepared food. Most probably, it is prepared by an Ill trained college alumni member (which you'll notice, tend to be hired by the management in order to save costs). But considering the location and aspect of the place, you can have a fairly enjoyable afternoon/evening here. Management really do need to ask the staff to keep the outside seating areas tidy and clean. The outside areas viewing the river could be so beautiful and tranquil if it weren't for the litter and remnants of used crockery and pint glasses that just aren't cleared efficiently enough.

Locally has a reputation for being "hit and miss". We ordered brunch, food did arrive 15 mins later but before the tea! One plate missed the side of mushrooms, sent back then came back with four mushrooms... I wasn't trying to count but it was so obvious to miss! My side of toast and jam came without jam but water crest. Had to them wait for cutlery. Two ladies adjacent said theirs arrived "stone cold" and late. Just a mess, basic stuff of taking orders getting it right and serving promptly seems to be something we're often void of in this country and seems to be acceptable, I don't think it is. "Management" have aimed for this low bar here and achieved it. Young serving staff were friendly. The ancient bridge is falling down (sounds like a song!) And has obviously been doing so from the weight of the driftwood, (drift tree trunks in this case!) and that seems to be "OK" too. No doubt some dispute who's paying for it but as the Saxon primarily benefit from it you'd think they'd keep in check. Wonderful venue, management don't deserve it.

A gorgeous setting next to the river Avon and having a bonus of a working water wheel. I have visited three times and found a different experience each time regards food and service. Sometimes the food is delicious and hot other times it can be inedible; I once returned the seasonal vegetables which was only cabbage because it was saturated in salt. My daughter and I are vegetarians and there isn't much choice in plain English food for veggies. I did enjoy a soup with crusty bread which was delicious and hot. Puddings are always lovely as are the breakfast of berries, maple and waffle's. No complaints about the coffee or the tea. Though I did ask for a very dirty cup to be replaced on one occasion. If you are disabled and in a wheelchair as I am there is only one toilet which is extremely filthy; it was so filled up the last time I visited it was unusable and I had to wait until I got back home which is not acceptable. I am yet to find this toilet clean and it certainly has put me off going there again.

I’ve loved this place for 20+ years. Amazing historical place for a drink or enjoying the almost famous spit-roast chicken - as well as other terrific grub. Fab spot to do a Sunday walk over the river too as it’s an idyllic spot to return to, so picturesque.

A varied selection of brilliant food served by super friendly staff. The building is a quaint old mill with plenty of references to it's former purpose. Stunning views of the river and castle out the back and plenty of off road parking available at the front. The food is quite expensive but definitely worth it. The beer selection is limited but most are locally brewed and there is enough variety for everyone to find something they like.
