Visited on a Sunday in March and our group of four was greeted by friendly & cheerful staff. Four of us ate a wonderful Sunday lunch. Service was excellent and food very good. Great selection of wines, beers and cocktails. The “Kilt Lifter” was a particular favourite of the group. Well worth a visit if on the canal as you can tie up outside or even if passing by car. Recommend to phone ahead if you are wanting to eat on a Saturday or Sunday as is always busy.

Coming here by car you get the impression that most customers travel by narrow boat - you could easily miss it from the back! But appearances aside I thought it was great. The staff were very friendly (especially with my over-excited kids), the beer was good, the choice of food was excellent and the food itself was very nice. It's well worth a visit.

Took an American businessman and his wife her for a bit of character and a business lunch.  I don't think I'd call it a 'gastro-pub' it was good but not exceptional and the prices were reasonable for the setting and canal side ambience.  

One member of staff who was cheerful and attentive made up for others who seemed surly and offhand and who seemed to think it beneath them to tidy up outdoors.  

The gents toilets whilst not disgusting were below average and handwash facilities were inadequate for a place with an expectation of touching food with fingers.   

By English standards it was average, by the standards of Americans (like the ones with us whose hospitality we had enjoyed in Florida)  it was slack with insufficient attention to detail especially hygiene, cleanliness and litter (cigarette detritus especially). 

I had remembered it being much better during high season.  I won't be back until I see reviews suggesting it is back on top of its game.

Brilliant place and superb food. Great staff and excellent atmosphere. Always had a good meal and beer. Only gripe is the seating for the restaurant area is rather cramped, but then this adds to the charm. Very pleasant canal side location make it ideal for a summer evening pint.

Discovered this place when trying to find a decent location for a Sunday roast. This is our new favourite Sunday spot, the food is to die for, the service fantastic and the location/atmosphere is lovely.
