A group of friends and I went to this pub and had a pretty terrible experience. We came in and first impressions were not too bad, the menu looked all right, as did the beer selection. We sat down and had a look around, the pub itself is actually pretty small, shabby and generally not the nicest place to be. The only other patrons were a couple of silent, lone drinkers at the bar and a couple, there was a reserved table of six but they never turned up. We went up to order for 5 and it took at least ten minutes to order and get drinks, this was not down to a sudden influx of people, this was because a number of their beer and fizzy drink taps were out of action. The starters came out in good time, we had prawn cocktail and carrot and coriander soup between us, both of which were pretty good in taste, presentation and portion size. We then moved onto the mains, we had a Russell Inn special pizza, gourmet burger and cod and chips. The pizza was nothing special, it was deep pan, cost £13 and we genuinely believe it had come out of a Chicago Town package from the local supermarket. The only thing gourmet about the burgers was the fact they were served on a wooden board, I didn't try one myself, but they were as thin as a McDonald's burger and only came with a side of chips which went cold and therefore bad pretty quickly. The cod and chips looked pretty good when it came out, but the looks were very deceiving. The batter was extremely stodgy and could be used to glue building materials together, the cod itself was genuinely tasteless and watery. Needless to say none of the five of us finished our meals and we walked out feeling fully ripped off. I have to admit we didn't want to complain so we don't know what they would have said, but we know we would never go back there and would actively dissuade people from visiting if we were asked.
