A BIT MORE ABOUT US ...

After lying dilapidated for almost a year, The Royal Oak in Tetbury, a lovely Grade II listed coaching inn dating from 1871, reopened In August 2013 following a year-long restoration.

As well as a refurb of the bar, which has an intimate saloon vibe, there are six lovely en suite guest rooms in the former pub skittle alley. There’s one knock out room, The Oak Lodge, designed by architect Zac Monro, who featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs. It has a cool mezzanine with extra twin beds so great for families and there’s a wood burner for cosy nights in.

There are three dog-friendly rooms available on the ground floor and there’s a terrific walk starting just outside the pub leading to Preston Park or just three miles away the stunning National Arboretum in Westonbirt boasts miles of forested walks to enjoy before heading back to TROT HQ for a Pint O' Tea and free dog treats.

You can drop in for bar food including the Workers' Pot, a hearty, tasty one pot stew, or there's the full menu offer and atmospheric dining up in the rafters. A private dining space seats 1 - 16 - bring your own ipod and plug in and play! Food is organic, delicious, locally-sourced fare from our kitchen headed up by Head Chef James Gilbert.

As well as nourishing, comfort food and sharing plates such as local charcuterie and cheese boards, there are plenty of healthy options and a good variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes too, including house favourites: a succulent Porcini & Herb Burger and a splendid vegan roast with all the trimmings and gravy on Sunday.

On tap The Royal Oak serves some of the best local real ales, lager and ciders. Stroud Brewery, Moor Beer, Freedom Organic lager and Beard & Sabre Cider are regular house serves; guest ales feature weekly and there’s a great selection of international bottled craft beers hailing from Brooklyn to Reykjavik. The well-chosen wine list presents smooth but affordable wines sourced in partnership with wine merchant legends Lea & Sandeman and includes a selection of organic, vegan-method wines by Vintage Roots. With an apothecary of interesting and unusual spirits you can also sample a perfect serve Cotswold Dry gin Martini for sundowners.

If you like music in pubs the jukebox is on! From Django Reinhardt to Led Zeppelin. Following a lazy Sunday lunch served till 5pm why not hang around for a Sunday Session at times featuring the Oak's 1920s Berlin piano. Recent happenings have been courtesy of the genre-defying Moishe's Bagel (who just dropped in to see what condition our condition was in while on a national tour, and Sidney & Percy, the undisputed love-children of Liza Minnelli and Chas & Dave.

As well as quiz nights featuring the riotous Make N Do rounds The Royal Oak is a fun, creative, friendly freehouse perfectly situated for browsing the chic boutiques and antiques emporiums of Tetbury or from which to explore the stunning Cotswolds. So get out and about this year, and get inn!

Rooms available midweek from £85 and £95 at weekends include full English or full Vegan breakfast.

Had a Sunday roast in the bar area as we have dogs. The staff seemed to be a bit young and inexperienced. We waited nearly an hour for our food, even though we told the bar staff what we wanted to order as soon as we arrived. Everyone else got Thier food before we did. It was rather cold in there too. Food was good but nothing exceptional. Would it be so hard to make a vegan Yorkshire pudding?
Stopped off for some lunch on the way to Westonbirt. Pleasant pub., friendly staff. Fair amount of choice on the menu plus specials. No onside parking but free car park short distance away
Perfect location and very pretty pub with lovely garden. Within walking distance of the main town and very close to Chipping Steps and some incredible restaurants.nnThe room was very spacious with a large bathroom, good shower and comfy beds. We booked a dog friendly room and it had been thoughtfully decorated without too many things for a puppy to pick up and investigate at puppy height! There was also space for us to set up his sleeping crate which was rally helpful.nnBreakfast was great with a lovely selection of offerings and really good sized portions.nnStaff were really friendly and helpful.nnOur only issue was that the room was extremely hot- even turning off all the radiators and leaving the windows and the door! wide open, the room was very hot. There was a fan provided which was good but it was still far too hot in the room.
Spent three nights here to visit the Badminton Horse Trails. The Room was very nice clean and worth the price.nnThe Staff was so welcoming and nice and they nearly felt like family after a few days!nnThe pub is very nice, the food and beer very tasty! The breakfast was a la card and delicious!nnThankyou for a great time in beautiful Tetbury.
Really lovely pub - beautiful inside and out. We went for dinner and really, really enjoyed the food. The staff are all so friendly, kind and attentive. We will absolutely be putting this on our main rotation.
