We came here on a busy Easter Sunday lunch time when the restaurant and bar were packed. The friendly barman kindly found us a table near the bar which has a lovely feel with the log fire burning. We were treated to incredible food - the best fish pie we've ever tasted and the steak and ale pie also highly recommended. If you're looking for a first class proper English country pub for drinks or food, look no further than The Thames Head Inn! It's worth booking ahead to be sure of avoiding disappointment.

Great atmosphere; very good home cooked food served by helpful friendly staff. Beware humongous portions!! Open log fire- bit smokey tonight! - a comfortable place to sit and chat. Menu a little restricted and strong on pies and burgers - it's all home made! It would be nice to see a couple of sofas around the fire, as at present it's mostly aimed at diners and the bench seats aren't all that comfortable.

A very friendly pub restaurant and Inn about 15 minutes walk from Thames Head where river Thames issues from the ground and starts it's long journey towards London. The pub food is great but our steak and kidney pie, although home made, but was extremely salty. We did bring it to the attention of two staffs but apart from 'sorry' no action was taken. We left it half eaten. The first five minutes of the walk is very risky and one has to exercise caution. From the pub you immediately turn left on the main A429 and very busy road with no footpath, very narrow two way traffic. It's recommended to walk this route only in daylight. The cars have to screech to a halt to give you the way. Fortunately after about five minutes you turn left before the railway arch bridge and follow the grass path to your destination. The best time to visit is after the heavy rains as the ground will be well soaked and you will be able to see the water issuing like a bubbling pond from the ground. There's no water during the dry season or during the times when there's not a lot of precipitation in a year or when the water table is lower than the ground level. The walking route is not recommended for people with walking difficulties as although its a grassed path but one has to climb at least three farm fences via sties and also cross two main line rail tracks with no lights or control of any sort. It's your responsibility to look both ways! It's a pity that it's such a historic site but no government or organisation ever bothered to provide a safe path to the Thames Head from main Road for more than thousand years.

Decent food with great service. Would say that the food is good but nothing particularly special. We were in a group of 12 having lunch there in the week so can imagine it would put a bit of a strain on the kitchen if it's normally quiet in the week. Personally I wouldn't go for the whitebait again as it was frozen.

Excellent. Very good meal in good surroundings with helpful and enthusiastic staff. Nice not to have piped music so conversation was king. We have already recommended to some friends and we look forward to our next visit 😀
