Picturesque setting- a charming old pub on elevated ground surrounded by greenery. The view was nice and calming despite it being an overcast day. The food was quality- well presented and hearty. The three courses were tasty, as were the side dishes and I was full. The service was great, super friendly staff. Decor inside was ok- some nice touches by the fire place- for the segment of the market this lovely place operates in, you might expect slightly more. My visit was in Feb '22 so this may have changed- will definitely return, it's a lovely pub.
Superb! Lovely lunch outside on a lovely sunny day. Staff friendly and did not rush us as we had 3 courses and drinks. Food delicious and to a very high standard. Definitely want to go back
Went for lunch on Saturday, the pub was packed but we had reserved a table in advance. This is the first time we have visited despite hearing good things for years. We opted rather than starters as thought we may fill up for our main meal, the bread, olives and salami was all delicious. For our main course we shared a chateaubriand steak, this was cooked to perfection medium rare. It was melt in the mouth and I have to say one of the finest cooked pieces of meat we’ve ever eaten, this came with Chips and sauce which enhance the meal and again were cooked perfectly. No fault to find in anything.
Lovely old world country pub with great views from the beer garden. Brilliant Sunday lunch, hot plates and hot food that's cooked well.
Absolutely fabulous traditional pub, about 2 miles from Hexham. Great menu from sandwiches lunch only to sharing platters to sharing hunks of beef. All locally sourced. Really lovely staff We'll be back please !
Excellent lunch, good service, great views down the valley Vegetarian options: on the menu Parking: Small carpark at side
Slightly disappointing supper, having read such hugely positive reviews… I guess all reviews need to be taken with a pinch of salt, after all we all have different criteria of what is good.. I’d say given the price of the courses, they should be a little above the average pub food .. but in reality it’s average, or that was our experience the evening we visited. With a few simple tweaks we felt it could really be above average.. it takes caring day after day .. meal after meal .. not easy, but eating out is increasingly costing a lot & I believe it should include that care, & the feeling it was all the very best it could be.
Had a great lunch date with my wife yesterday. The rump steak was cooked to perfection and the Rat Sauce was amazing. My wife had the braised steak and mash and thoroughly enjoyed it whilst having fantastic view. Was our 1st ever visit but definitely won't be our last!!!
A lovely visit on a beautiful day. Sat in the garden with my dog after a warm welcome from the staff. What a treat to have a cold pint of cider on the sunny 1st of June! Food was very good. Potted shrimps followed by fabulous Confit Duck which was 'French good'! Would definitely recommend. This type of country pub is one of Britain's greatest treasures.
Lovely pub in a quiet location. Had a 3 course evening meal there during COVID restrictions and other than the usual distancing the staff made you feel welcome like a great pub should. Food was freshbl and locally sourced and the menu changes daily...will be making the trip back again.
