Excellent in both atmosphere and quality. This is a working pub with an amazing kitchen. We were warned that we would need to book but October? You need to book. Do so, it is well worth it. After finishing your meal, go sit in the pub area and enjoy a great pint by the fire. Get someone else to drive tonight!
Very warm welcome. Lovely convivial bar. Room was clean, comfortable and quiet with a good bathroom. The border breakfast set us up perfectly for the day. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would have no hesitation recommending to others and I will return. Jim
What an amazing place to grab some food. Warm friendly atmosphere. Traditional country pub feels with a open fire. Dining room to the rear. Free parking over the road. We had potato skins which were one of the best with a variety of dips. The beef burger is crafted with fresh local meat and was delicious. Well pricedService: 5/5
We had such a great stay at the Holly Bush Inn. It is a good location if you are visiting the observatory at Kilder Forest. When we arrived we were greeted by James, who gave a warm and friendly welcome. The room was cosy and clean, the bed and pillows super comfy. We ate in the pub both nights and it isn't just standard pub food, the food was restaurant quality, it was delicious! They had plenty of breakfast options and again the food was really good quality and tasty. In the evening the log fire was roaring and all the locals were polite and welcoming, the bar staff really nice. I would highly recommend booking here and we will be looking to come and stay again.
The food was amazing! The chips here are amazing. The staff are so friendly, accommodating, welcoming and their prices unbelievably cheap. Delicious. Highly recommendedRooms: 5/5
Pub: Quaint village pub selling generous portions of good home-cooked food. The pub itself has a very small bar with two large tables and a roaring fire in winter. Most folk are locals and there was standing room only for a while. It’s serves a good selection of drinks with guest ales and cider. Beer garden out the back with nice views of the countryside. The bar was warm roaring fire and we ordered dinner from our table thinking what a nice place to eat. But then we were ousted from our warm table into a cold dining room to eat the dinner we ordered in almost isolation - where we then waited 30 mins in the cold for it to arrive. Dinner: The menu had a good selection with a few vegan dishes too. We had 2 starters and 2 mains … Lima Beancakes with a Creole Sauce £5.50. This was a lovely specials starter. The 2 large fried beancake fritters were light and packed full of flavour, served on a bed of creole sauce which complemented by balancing it. Potato Skins with Dips £5.50. Well seasoned slices of potato with 4 dips. The mango salsa was on point, the curry had a great balance, a creole sauce and ketchup. Nice starter. Vegan Spaghetti £12. A very generous portion made with a nutty pesto. It was cooked well and tasted really good. A slice of garlic bread would have made it perfect. Vegan Vegetable Masala Curry £13. A big portion of perfectly cooked rice and home cooked curry with a mango salsa side. The chef clearly knows what they’re doing because the veggies had bite but had taken on board the delicious masala sauce. A great dish. Hotel. As a hotel it’s a bit disorganised! Even though we’d booked and paid for a room in advance, they didn’t know we were due to stay and instead started to push having a drink and food. After an hour and still unsure if we’d get our room, we were asked if we’d like another drink and what we’d like to eat - even though we’d given no indication of wanting a meal! We took in on risk that they’d have a room and ate first - Imagine having a couple of pints and a meal only to find we needed to drive off to find a hotel! Eventually after a dinner with no room in the bar to sit down, and having been there for a few hours we asked again and were shown to room … but it was the wrong one! The correct room Hill House was nice, clean and warm with a small TV but a very cramped bathroom. Bed was too soft to say the least and rather uncomfortable. Neither of us slept well which is unusual for us. Full Vegan English Breakfast: I think “full” is a bit of a stretch. 2 vegan sausages, Ramakin of beans, chopped cooked mushrooms and a tomato. Toast on the side. No alternate for the bacon, black pudding or eggs. The tomatoes were almost raw and mushrooms bland. Not great, Sorry. Would I go back? For a drink and a meal, yeah, when it warms up a bit. Would I recommend? Food and beer in summer.
Had a really great stay courtesy of all the team here apologies as only got Lynne and Jules' names!. The room Waterhead was really comfortable and cosy - really felt that given the rain we had! I only sampled one ale and for shame I forget which, but it was beautifully kept. Both the evening meal and breakfast were absolutely on point. One day, would love to make it back!
After a nice trip via Corbridge and Collingwood Hadrians wall we arrived at the Holly Bush Inn. A friendly welcome. Enjoyed the warm spring sun with a beer in the garden. After an excellent dinner Rib-eye Steak and Steak & Ale Pie slept well. The next morning a delicious breakfast with black pudding. The Holly Bush is a fantastic address for a stop for 1 or 2 nights. The people are very friendly and attentive. An absolute must!
Cracking place to stay. Friendly staff, good pub food. Great real ale selection and whiskey shelf.Rooms: 5/5
Absolutely fantastic pub. They catered for my friends and I on my 40th weekend away and it was great. Nothing was too much bother, well worth a visit!
