The Ram Inn

About

16th century coaching inn set at the foot of The South Downs and serving the finest food and real ales in Sussex.

Story

The Ram Inn has been at the heart of a vibrant farming community for over five hundred years. A wonderful village local, set in Firle, at the foot of the Downs and in the South Downs National Park. The rambling old building has three main bar areas, each with its own open fire lit every day between October and April. At the bar you will find artists, walkers, writers, farmers, farriers and vicars, and the garden is usually full of families and children of all ages. Now known for really good local food as well as locally produced cask ales, we also have four beautiful bedrooms and offer bed & breakfast all year round.

A great place for some high-end cuisine. Had the lunch menu. Lots of choice. Presentation on the plate was excellent; better than restaurant standard. Staff very friendly and gave you plenty of time between drinks and courses to enjoy each without rushing.

Love this pub. Used to come here in the 90s when I lived in Brighton. Now I come back to visit from London. Great atmosphere, lovely rooms and good food. Good garden in summer and cosy in winter.

We had an excellent "sharing" dinner at the Ram Inn. We literally tried all the dishes. ALL the starters were very good, and the means, we ordered mostly meat, were cooked to perfection. The staff is very helpful and recommended a nice champagne. One minor point was the slight draught through the room where we were sitting, but I guess that had more to do with the windy conditions that day. Well recommended gastropub to wind down after a 56km trail run!

What a lovely pub. Managed to get here on the first sunny day of the year when the garden was more or less deserted. Food was really tasty and service quick
