If I could only ever visit one more pub it’d be this one. Wonderfully quaint inside, exceptional food and a truly beautiful garden. The garden is the standout feature. No better place to spend a summers afternoon. Views of vast, undulating countryside, an outdoor bar and a very impressive barbecue. That really is a compliment as the pub itself is so great. It’s a post card English country pub. Yes, it’s expensive but it’s really worth spending that little bit more

We booked a table at 8pm for five for a friends 60th birthday. When we ordered we were told third of the main courses were already unavailable. The first course took nearly an hour to arrive. We had to request some bread to keep us going. The three males ordered fillet steak medallions at a mouthwatering £25 each. This consisted of a small amount of mash, four or five green beans and three or four small medallions of fillet. And the fillet steak was so tough and chewy we had to request steak knifes! How on earth can any restaurant make fillet steak chewy?! We had booked a taxi 11pm, thinking three hours would be ample time for a three course meal but the service was so bone-crushingly slow that our pudding arrived at the same time as out taxi. We did make our dissatisfaction clear. The response was limp and barely apologetic. To add insult to injury The Griffin marks up an Italian red wine that sells for £20 at Majestic to an eye watering £85. I've been going to the Griffin for thirty years. Its always been expensive but you could rely on the food and service being acceptable. Now you can't. We won't be going to eat there again.

I went here for a friend's birthday and although the menu was very meat heavy, my vegan needs were extremely well accommadated. I had lovely bruschetta to start and the chef made me custom roast tomato, spinach and olive risotto that was delicious and so filling. It's a shame they don't offer sorbet as I couldn't have any pudding. I know vegans might not frequent them often but for the amazing effort they put in, I thank them, and I don't think they'd lose anything by adding a sorbet. I'm sure people who have eaten a rich meal would love it to freshen their palate (not just us herbivores!)

Best Sunday lunch I've had in a long time. Between us we tried most things on the menu and almost everything was utterly delightful. Great ingredients - well combined and beautifully cooked. Attentive service and a gorgeous location. Prices make it a bit of a treat, but will definitely be back.

Fantastic food, can’t actually remember what I had now, but I remember it being outstanding. Pub is exactly what a British pub should be, small, cosy, quaint. Would highly recommend and look forward to go again.
