Whilst we were only here for a work do, the staff were very friendly and helpful all the time. Hats off to the barman that stayed till early hrs to keep serving till very late. Three course meal was excellent quality food, great choice of drinks too! Beautiful setting and would think it’s even better in the summer! Unfortunately I had an awful night sleep as the mattress was completely busted and was like a bag of springs, very noisy! The rooms definitely need to be updated as very tired indeed. Great shower though!
An absolute gem of a place . Beautiful building set in lovely grounds . The staff couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming, service was fantastic. Rooms.a good size and well equipped. Beds lovely and pillows nice and supportive. The food was delicious and portions a good size .All in all a great place to stay. Quiet considering only ten minutes from east midlands airport Highly recommended.
The Priest House has so much potential. Its location is lovely, situated by a river and the buildings are lovely. However, this is a very tired hotel, both inside and out. The exterior paint is peeling, the outdoor communal areas around The Cottage where we stayed were so dirty and unkempt and the exterior of this building was grubby too. The room was at least clean and plenty roomy, but the radiator was on full blast and it was a 23° sunny day. It couldn’t be turned down or off. The service in the restaurant was very slow and the food overpriced for the tiny portions. The constant drone all night of the aircraft flying into East Midlands airport was very noisy. It’s all a bit of a shame, as this place has bags of potential. Sadly, we wouldn’t come back again.
We were gifted afternoon tea at the priest house. When we arrived we were 10 minutes early and were told to wait and stand in the empty restaurant to be seated by the member of staff- this became slightly awkward as no member of staff came. We went back to reception and were told we were early so to just wait. We then decided to go out and enjoy the grounds by the river on a lovely sunny day. When we went back in, we were redirected by a member of staff within the restaurant to a different area of the building which I believe was the bar area with less formal seating. The two members of staff in here were very attentive and seated us and arranged our afternoon tea. The afternoon tea itself was nice- it was on quite a large wooden picnic bench which with high tables and low chairs this was maybe a little too big. Cakes were a variety and sandwiches also. There was a small hair on one of the cakes but we advised staff of this at the end and they apologiesed- we understand these things can happen. We would unlikely return for afternoon tea- it was nice buy didn't wow us and considering how quiet it was, not all staff in all areas of the business were as attentive as they could have been. Toilets were clean and property accessible.
We went for Afternoon tea. The food was delicious and had a lovely selection of sandwiches, cakes and a scone each. The room we were in was lovely. The staff member serving us was polite, prompt and welcoming. Can't rate rooms as didn't stay overnight. We would definately go there again.
Just visited for our classic car national event and wanted to thank everyone at the hotel for accommodating us this weekend. What a fabulous venue! Great food, friendly staff and a really peaceful location on the banks of the river Trent.Rooms: 5/5
We were welcomed warmly and were told a wedding was held that night, which was fine and it was stated clearly in emails and on the website where we booked our stay. We couldn't hear the party from our room so that was good, I'll come back to that later. Upon entering our room, we noticed it was very lived down. It didn't feel clean, paint was chipping from the door, carpet was filthy, mold in the bathroom, the bed linnens didn't feel fresh, it was hot. There was a note saying we shouldn't open the windows because of flies, which we totally get. However, when you know the rooms can get hot it's an old hotel, that shouldn't come as a surprise, there's no airconditioning which wasn't stated correctly on Google, and not clearly stated in the ad, you would expect decent alternatives to cool down. There was a tiny fan that was so loud, we thought it would lift off any second. That's not a good alternative. Back to the wedding. At 22h30, fireworks were set off on the parking lot. Right next to our room. I can not state enough how angry that made me. We brought our dog with us. It took us 2 hours to calm her down. We took time to research hotels that weren't part of a big chain, and were dog friendly. I went to the lobby to complain and they stated "we told you a wedding was going on". Again, I'm fine with a wedding, but who in their right mind thinks it's okay to set off fireworks in the parking lot, next to rooms with dogs, probably sleeping children. This was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. The staff in the restaurant was very accommodating, but they were noticeably overworked.
We visited the Priest House for afternoon tea so could not rate the rooms. The place is in beautiful surroundings. The afternoon tea was to die for absolutely scrumptious. The service was above and beyond expectation with warm welcoming smiles from all staff. If the hotel side of the business is as good as this I think we will have to spend a night with you. Please thank your staff they are a credit to you and their trade. Food & drinks: Excellent afternoon tea. Noteworthy details: Real quality old fashioned service.
We went to the abba night in the Riverside suite. This included a 2 course meal. The food was really nice and the evening was really good. All the staff were lovely and very helpful. Bar staff were very efficient and friendly. Will look for other venues and return. Can't comment on rooms as we didn't stay the night .
Nice staff & quiet location, great restaurant and main hotel building but.... Avoid the "cottage" rooms in the outbuilding section of the hotel. Seriously outdated and scruffy decor, furniture & fittings, and cold/damp even in July. Not sure if the highlight was the leopard print ironing board cover, the bedside sockets into which you can't put a three-pin plug, the ten year old mattresses or the front door that wouldn't lock? Tough choice. Noteworthy details: None
