Went to the Portland for a meal on a busy Saturday night. We were served immediately by a friendly, helpful young barman. Our meal was brought to us piping hot by another cheerful and efficient young man. Lovely meal, lovely pint, lovely people in a lovely pub. Highly recommended
Didn't stay in the hotel but visited a few times for food and drink. Drink are great, well priced and using the app is quick and easy. Food is ok Mixed grill was hit and miss, gammon and pork cooked well, steak overcooked and lamb had all fat with 2 tiny bites of super pink meat. Next time we visited steak and kidney pudding was nice. Although cheap, you can't help but feel disappointed with huge plates for average sized meals. Plenty of toilets although 4 were filthy and hadn't been checked for a while I'd guess. Staff were great each visit keeping drinks flowing, clearing tables as soon as people left etc.
Stayed here 1 night for an early start in Chesterfield. Room was lovely & clean & the staff were really lovely & helpful. I managed to leave my medication behind but a member of staff rang me straight away & avoided a calamitous start to my holiday. Thank you
Nice place. Room had a lovely lay out. But very cold in the room. Radiator where only hot and bottom half of rad and stone cold at top. But a polite place.Rooms: 3/5
Went for breakfast and hot/cold drinks. Guy behind bar was rude, I told him my glass had an obvious lipstick mark on it he huffed, rolled his eyes then changed it but slammed the glass in front of me!! Really put me off. Waitress was nice and polite, food was OK. Guy behind bar has put me off,won't be going again
Lovely hotel/bar. Spotless. Very well decorated. Staff friendly and excellent service. Bed was so comfy.Rainfall shower fab.
I thought I had found a clean restaurant in this area. But another typical english restaurant. I even suggested to my family that we go here for dinner. But I was wrong. I don't know how you manage to serve with dirty knives and forks? What about the plate, I wonder that too..
Went for breakfast. Food was just warm . Quorn vegan sausage awful. Always had Quorn veggie sausages before which were good, why is everyone subject to having vegan?
Great hotel, £10.00 extra for parking when paying £70 for the room I found a bit expensive. Very small carpark for the size of hotel. Food was nice and beer was decent price &, a nice pint.Rooms: 5/5
Had a great stay for the night, staff very friendly, room was lovely & clean loved the shower, didn't have any doubles left so had a twin room, this was not problem, beds were more than large enough, walk straight into high street, will definitely be back, only downside was having to pay £10 to park which we wasn't aware of when booking.
