Run by husband and wife team, Andrea and Morag offer an authentic Italian menu in a friendly cosy atmosphere.

Story

We have given The Pheasant a new lease of life. The landmark restaurant was derelict for almost 10 years and the local community were very excited about their fondly remembered restaurant reopening. We spent over a year doing extensive refurbishment and have a created a contemporary restaurant offering a unique dining experience in the heart of Galloway for local, national and International guests. Italian co-owner and chef Andrea brings an authentic Mediterranean menu with an interesting Scottish twist and a 0km ethos.
The cosy eclectic lounge with log fire offers a great place for a casual lunch and pre-dinner drinks and nibbles. The modern rustic styled dining rooms with driftwood bar are the perfect place for any intimate meal with family or friends.

Fantastic meal for both me and my vegan girlfriend. She often finds it hard to find restaurants that fully take her dietary requirements into account, but was able to speak directly to the chef who recommended a couple of options. I had the meatloaf which will absolutely excellent. Highly recommended!

What a shame, you can't call yourself an italian restaurant as your food gotta simply flat taste and no italian food on the menu. the same taste you get from ready meals on Supermarket. Been there for a family lunch of 4. The rest of the people were very disappointed about their food. i've ordered for Starters a Lentils and Smoked bacon. The plate was cold, Was impossible to reach the smoked taste of the bacon as the strong taste of the veg stock powder and the onion were take over of all the ingredients. The tomato was raw. As a main course i've ordered a mushroom and chestnut roll served with blue cheese sauce... god save me from what i am about to say. a Vegetarian attempt of the italian version with meat. A complete disaster. the roll of puff pastry was deep fried, ( italians never do that), than probably frozen, than boost up in the microwave before serving. As a result the roll was soggy on the pastry, piping hot and dry in the center (microwave effect). the roast potatoes (deep fried and slightly roasted) where old (at least 2 days) and reheated to the microwave same as the veg. and finally a dessert... they were really italian desserts? The orange and chocolate cake where so disappointed, let me guess... frozen from a cheap range of wholesale chain. Defrosted into a microwave of course just before to serve as it was still frozen in the center. The bill came... 4 people... £104 pounds.... the only thing and overpriced i can save is the Wine... You must be ashamed!

What a find! You wouldn't expect it from the name, but this is an excellent traditional Italian restaurant run by a lovely couple. We were staying nearby for a week and came twice is was so good! A lovely relaxed feel and the food was excellent. A must.

We dined on Thursday 7th September, on a busy evening when the restaurant was full. The welcome was warm, the cuisine was superb and service was exemplary - we felt well looked after and enjoyed our meal all the more for it. Thank you, we will be back - and soon!
