Story

The Old Rep is a theatre located in Station Street in Birmingham, England, managed by Birmingham Ormiston Academy Theatre.

Construction began in October 1912 and it was opened on February 15, 1913 with a performance of Twelfth Night and then a reading by its founder, Barry Jackson, of a poem written by John Drinkwater. When completed it had a seating capacity of 464. Many of the current features are original from the theatre's first opening.

It was the former home of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre and was the first purpose-built repertory theatre in the UK.

The theatre is situated just opposite New Street Station, from which a blue plaque to Barry Jackson may be seen.

Very old listed building. Beware there are no lifts if you are sitting in the balcony there are a lot of stairs to get there so unsuitable for someone with mobility issues. It's a great fitness work out getting to your seats. Seriously so many steps! Seating all though tiered doesn't work that well. I was in 2nd row in balcony see photos before and after people in 1st row took their seats. I think again this is due to the theatres age. Thankfully you don't need to go downstairs to the bathroom it's just up another couple of flights of stairs. However the 1 Toilet didn't flush and the 1 sink didn't work in the bathroom near the balcony in the male toilets. Staff are friendly.
Lovely experience during Birmingham heritage week. We had a lovely tour and talk with a afternoon tea on the stage. They adjusted to dietary needs as required.
As usual with any theatre / venue, a lot depends upon the "act" presented. Rich Hall tonight 18 March 2023 filled the place. It is quite intimate place and perfectly suited his show.
Beautiful old theatre with amazing history, loads of famous people have appeared there, only down side for me at 6"3 , bit tight on leg room and a bit steep
An old theatre in the centre of Birmingham, lovely decore and a great history.a bar if you fancy a tipple or two .Seats are not the best if you have long legs ,staff are pleasant and helpful. HMS Pinafore was on and was performed very well .
Absolutely beautiful & "old fashioned" looking. There's alot of stairs though & no elevated, which causef me some problems as I have mobility problems. There is a wheelchair lift in the bar entrance, but no where else. The staff are extremely friendly & helpful
Went to watch sinderella. Ace is quite unique. Seats were small I struggled to be comfy for the performance being tall. The staff were good a few more on for drinks at the interval would increase beverage sales.
Lovely little theatre,we were in the stalls and were able to see the stage easily. The staff were helpful and friendly. My young Grandaughter and myself enjoyed Beauty and the Beast.
We've been to see two shows in the last month and my children loved them, They especially enjoyed the leaping frog workshop after the show. We saw more of the theatre and the kids made their own shadow puppets and went up on stage. The seating is great for the kids as they can clearly see the stage from any seat without heads getting in their way.
Fantastic place.Easy to get from the train station just round the corner.
