4 decades plus of delivering a variety of entertainment, from musicals, productions, stand ups and everything on between. Been here over the decades enjoying great productions and have great memories. Please is getting old and needs a bit of modernising, but still a great venue and like it how it is. Today we went back in time and went to watch stand up Brian Conley. Great show, back in time with his classic sketches and famous idiotic dangerous Brian and silllyness and one liners.
An excellent theatre with a very good legroom in the stalls... The ambassador bar service is second to none, well worth the premium. We will be back.
Excellent accessibility, great show, didn't have such a great view in the stalls. There is a wheelchair accessible entrance that takes you directly into the stalls. I was greeted by Andi and his lovely colleague, who were very welcoming and friendly and obviously love their job. They looked after me all night. I had booked a seat to transfer into from my wheelchair, and my chair was then stored a few metres away at the side of the room, within my sight. By the entrance is a good accessible bathroom I'm sure Andi would have moved the nappy bin if I'd needed him to. He also listened carefully and promised to act immediately when I mentioned that the emergency cord was dangling on the floor, not hanging 10cm above it as the standard says it should. Andi also gave us a QR code to scan for at seat drinks and snacks service. Unfortunately, I didn't have much of a view, even though we were about 5 rows from the front. The gentleman in front of me was rather tall and broad-shouldered and there is not much rake in that part of the stalls. It probably would not have been such an issue with someone else sat in front, he was above average. I have a feeling I might have been better off sat in one of the wheelchair slots at the back. House of Jojo Johannes Radebe was an absolutely incredible show, so moving and with amazing dancing from so many genres and cultures. To experience it during Birmingham Pride weekend was an added level of emotion. They also did a free companion ticket for me as a wheelchair user. Thank you Jojo and the Alexandra for a lovely time!
Absolutely incredible night watching the spice girls show, first time visiting the venue. The performers and dancers were incredible and the whole room atmosphere was electric from start to finish. Absolutely will be booking more shows to come and see. Highly recommend a visit.
Theatre and staff absolutely first class! We were bought tickets for our birthdays and went to see 101 Dalmatian’s last night 4th July 2024, it was like an amateur production absolutely terrible, and sorry but not worth £85 for 2 tickets, you couldn’t actually here what Kim marsh was singing it was so loud, puppeteers were good in what they did, good for a 10 year old perhaps, we came out at half time very disappointed
Came here to watch I should be so lucky. Its a nice clean venue, seating on the top rows should be more staggered as your looking at the back of peoples head. Instead of looking between people shoulders. It was absoultly roasting hot in here Saturday night, they could do with air conditioning.
Watched 101 Dalmations. Puppeteers were amazing, Actors were mediocre. A very amateur production, more like a pantomime experience. Theatre staff were great. Word of warning seats are really uncomfortable and circle seats get a great view of the back of the head in front of you! My biggest gripe is the lack of Theatre etiquette by other guests. Granny, mom and daughter around 13 years old in front of us and talked the entire time, mom even stood up at one point and wouldn't sit down. So rude, it did spoil the show not being able to hear and see it all. Not the nicest of theatres to sit in, long queues for ladies loos and poor sound but we gave it a try.
Just came here to the ‘the night sky show’ was very good tbh. Been here to watch shows. Staff was great from entrance , bar to being seated. Its always good to support performing arts/ shows and local business’. Will certainly be back. All your usual refreshments, alcoholic beverages and snacks are available at the bar The building has character can still see original parts and features in there
From the moment Simon Brodkin stepped onto the stage at The Alexandra, Birmingham, it was clear that the audience was in for a treat. His ‘Screwed Up’ tour was nothing short of a comedic masterpiece, delivering laughs that echoed throughout the historic venue. As someone fortunate enough to have a front-row seat, I was the first to be drawn into Brodkin’s hilarious antics. His ability to engage with the audience was impeccable, making it not just a show but an interactive experience full of great fun. However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. The seating at The Alexandra, while steeped in history, could benefit from a modern touch. The lack of comfort led to a case of restless legs, which was a minor setback in an otherwise fantastic evening. Additionally, while the spirits were high, the spirit prices were too, with drinks leaning on the expensive side. Despite these small gripes, the night was a resounding success. Simon Brodkin’s talent for turning everyday observations into comedic gold was on full display, ensuring that every attendee left with a smile. It was a great night out, and the memories of laughter will linger far longer than any discomfort from the seats or the sting of the bar tab. Thank you, Simon, for a truly hilarious and memorable performance!
Easy to find good space in the seats clean and tidy and the staff was very helpful We seen the blue man group a very strange but entertaining gig for sure don't like drums take ear plugs great fun
