Such an amazing theatre, because of the shape every seat has a good view. The staff are super friendly, the only downside is the cost of refreshments, a 330ml can of water was £2. Still, I need to give 5 stars though because it's such a good venue.
The venue was easy to get to. The auditorium was spacious and had a good view of the stage from where we were row F. We ordered our snacks and drinks in advance so we wouldn't have to queue during the break. However, it was laid out with my name on it, and one of our snacks was missing. Also I didn't like the fact our drinks were uncovered. Other than that, it was a good show... we saw Rush.
Really interesting behind the scenes tour of the rep theatre.. Staff happy to tell us lots of information about how things work and are organised there. Answered any questions that we asked. We were made very welcome. Plus Winrush celebrations band, food and stalls was happening outside the front of the rep so we went round that as well after. Great planning and timing that there was two events on right next to each other. Many thanks. Linda & Becky.
What a delightful evening it was at Birmingham Rep seeing Withnail and I. The fabulous brutalist building and modernist interior has been beautifully cared for and as I sank into my buttery soft leather seat in the auditorium the stress of a late train from London & the subsequent breathless bolt up the hill left my body entirely. The staff were exceptional too - especially the lovely lady at the cloakroom and the gorgeous Mo, who was so helpful, observant and kind I asked for his name so I could give him special mention. I’ll be coming back for sure!
Saw Becoming Nancy. Nice little venue. Great seats. Sound and stage were fanatic. Highly recommend it
Interesting 1960’s throwback celebration of the film Withnail & I. Lead Adonis Siddique did a good impersonation of Richard E Grant, the sets were brilliant with an old Jag and Telephone Box centre stage. Too much use of swear words for my liking! The music was excellent, the band should release a show album!
Modern theatre no matter what seat you get, you get a great view of the stage thanks to its Olympic style seating. Only negative I guess is that the rows expand the full width of the theatre with no middle break which means you can only access the seats from either end of the row. So if you sit in the middle you do have to go past a lot of people to get to your seat.
Fantastic so worth the money. Love this gem of a theatre. Everyone must go it's fabulous this show was one of the best I've ever seen. Shall definitely see it again. Well done!!keep up the good work.
Wonderful modern theatre. Good size & great view wherever you are seated as it isn't too enormous. I wish they had put water jugs out though as I was super thirsty & the queues for the bars were too long!!!
I will cover both the show and the theatre itself in this review. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Incredibly underwhelming, unimaginative and gravely disappointing on numerous levels. The artistic interpretation of the movie and subsequent translation onto the stage has a lot to be desired and fails across the board. The costumes are absolutely dire, in particular “the beavers”; who look like they were on a tight budget for a fancy dress party. Scenery is non existent. I could not buy into the Pevensie “children” who are all clearly adults; the mannerisms don’t match visually therefore makes odd viewing. Deviations from the original plot were unnecessary and started to infuse scenes reminiscent of pantomime. Key scenes at that! Such as Lucy “finding the wardrobe”; is now replaced by a cat with its ever so hilarious “meow” that guides her there. How. Amazing. And Narnia; itself, I was expecting a truly wonderful, magical transition into this world. It’s not. One of the white witches henchman is channeling his inner Golem, which although acted out amazingly, feels out of place. But, ironically sums up the production quite well; “it’s just an utter mess”. It’s completely devoid of any magic. Scenes with the white witch and Aslan were enjoyable and well executed but ultimately didn’t make up for this mockery. The Theatre Management of the place is unprofessional and unwelcoming. Nobody to guide or welcome on entry. It was absolutely ridiculous that you allow vast amounts of people to rustle crisp packets and eat away in the audience. At one point that is all you could hear over the quieter scenes. Never, have I been to a theatre where they are literally kicking you out of the door once the production has finished. Further, upon leaving a gent carrying a table to inside of the theatre, at lightening speeds, narrowly missed colliding with me. No etiquette. Poor experience.
