OMG my family and i lived here for 2 months before n 1982 when we moved from Wisconsin to Outlane! It was so beautiful and the staff became like family! It was a real eye opener for a 12 year old who had never been out of the States! Sorry it’s not doing better!Rooms: 5/5
Visited this place to drop a resident off, was in the car park less than 15 mins while resident moved there stuff from my vehicle, Then left i later received a fine for the visit and spoke to the hotel and they refuse to help in anyway. Even lied on the phone about being able to help even though they own the car park.
Friendly staff and clean, room size OK, TV had lots of channels and continental breakfast was good if you like cereal and toast. if you want a cheap one or two nights in the area it'll do, but it is a very tired hotel, you can't open the windows because the M62 motorway noise is consistantly loud all night long, and if you close them you cook because the heating was on full blast and no amount of changing the thermostat cured that. Shower was a vertical drop type that took several minute to warm and was not powerful, just a gravity system that fell like heavy warm rain. As said it was an old tired hotel needing attention. If you are looking for clean and cheap it's fine, but for a more relaxed weekend the Manor House or The Premier nearby would be better.
When I booked a hotel, I was very worried because I saw the low ratings of review from several sites. However, when I arrived at the room after check-in, the condition of the room was quite good, contrary to my worries. There was no smell at all, the cleaning condition was good, the bedding was clean, and the mattress was good. I prefer a firmed mattress to a very soft mattress, which was to my liking. Most of the items in the room were also equipped. It may be because the room I was assigned to is facing south, the sunlight came in well. The room was a little hot because of too much sunlight. The staffs were friendly and the check-in processing was very fast. However, the negative point of the hotel was the bad smelle in the bathroom and the blanket was too thin. The smell from the bathroom wasn't too much, but it bothered me to some extent. In conclusion, I think the evaluation of the hotel for the cost I paid is good.
The hotel was very picturesque on the inside and the rooms were actually very nice. The classical style of hotel is really appealing to me and my fiancée. The hotelier for the night, Deon, could not have done enough for us and it made us feel really welcome. They gave us some useful directions for a wedding we were attending and also gave us a nice little continental breakfast. I’ve given 4 because the hotel is currently undergoing lots of renovation. When it’s done, we want to return and see it at its peak with the new kitchen and the views out into the wider gardens. If you’re around this way and in need for a stopover, this is really quite a lovely hotel and I would definitely recommend :
Not entirely what is advertised. Our room was tired and unloved. As was the hotel and grounds. Bathroom smelt a bit. The flush on the toilet was awful and the shower over the bath was hopeless. No power to it at all. We were the only ones for breakfast in a huge dining room. Only a continental breakfast on offer. Although that was ok. They don't do food other than that. Wifi is definitely an issue. Definitely not luxurious as is advertised on there site. The hotel takes in council tenants. So if your looking for a peaceful stay you might be a bit disappointed. One evening we were woken by residents out in the corridor chatting and laughing very loud around midnight and at 3am music playing loudly from one of the rooms which woke us up. The staff are very friendly and nice which is probably the only nice thing I can write about it. Can't fault the staff at all. Rooms: Tired and unloved. Needs upgrading and the bathrooms need looking at. Toilets smell and are difficult to flush. No power to the shower. Rooms are very basic. Not luxurious as advertised. And quite warm. Which isn't brilliant as you are right next to the M62. Walkability: A couple of pubs in walking distance. Other than that every where else is a car journey away Food & drinks: Only a continental breakfast on offer and small bar in reception.
AVOID! Stayed in this hotel with our one year old, first impressions were great, the room was big and spacious and had nice big windows. Then the overpowering smell of urine became more and more noticeable, it was coming from the bathroom where perhaps it had soaked into the floor, even with the bathroom door closed we could still smell it. The bathroom was pretty disgusting overall, old tired and dirty. There were stains on the carpet, the one chair in the room had dirty old stains on the seat and I wouldn't even let my dog sleep in the cot they provided, it was disgustingly dirty. We were supposed to stay two nights but the only reason we stayed one night was because we didn't want to disturb our sleeping son. The only good thing about this hotel was the lovely lady on reception who refunded us both nights.
Disgraceful 3 nights stay for 18 people, booked for over a year, was cancelled with less than 2 weeks notice and no real explanation and no offer of compensation for the resulting impact on our trip. Staff blamed Kirklees Council but would not give a contact name
Did not stay, has few characters lurking/ staying there that made me feel quite unsafe, constant noise from M62 motorway, only offered continental breakfast, also did not reply to email enquiry for a Sunday dinner reservation Safety: While in the car park, I saw quite a few characters that had frequented a local store clutching 6 packs of beer cans entering hotel
We stayed here for a wedding at the venue bowers mill. It’s about an 8 minute or £10 taxi drive away. The hotel is nice and the rooms are spacious. There was no kitchen on at the time and we was eating at the wedding so can’t comment on the food. The staff were really friendly.
