We booked the Old Gate as a surprise for a friend from South Africa who used to work there over a decade ago. All of the staff couldn’t have been more helpful in helping us get a table for Sunday Lunch at quite short notice, and at keeping the visit a surprise too. As soon as we walked in, we were made to feel welcome, and the pub itself has a beautiful feel inside, it’s modern but has kept all of the tradition of the building within the interior. Service was exceptional and all of the staff working with us couldn’t have been more helpful if they tried! From start to finish they were attentive, informative and all had a great sense of humour that kept our group in stitches. Finally, the food and drink were absolutely wonderful. It’s great to find a pub that serves Vedett, as well as plenty of other local beers and standard pub favourites behind the bar. The Sunday roast was beautiful, everything cooked to perfection, and great portion sizes. We left with bellies and hearts full, and all commenting on how good the food was! We’d heard great things from friends and family, and we’re so glad that the pub lived up to its sparkling reputation. We will definitely be coming back again soon, and can’t thank everyone at the Old Gate enough for making our surprise such a brilliant day.
Sam, Miss Katie and the team are absolutely lovely! They couldn't have done more to make my Mum's birthday celebrations special : We had a great night, food, atmosphere and service were spot on. Every time I've eaten here I've loved it. Highly recommmend
