It’s a nice bar close to theatres, it also serves delicious food. I really enjoyed the creamy spinach and chicken Rigatoni.
The Doombar was great, and the atmosphere was lovely, but unfortunately, the food was a bit disappointing. My salad was soaked in a dressing that was far too sour, almost like drinking vinegar, and my partner’s pie was only lukewarm. I’d return for the beer, but I’d definitely eat somewhere else next time. My takeaway cheese and bacon burger was quiet good also.
The wine was lovely, but unfortunately, the food arrived cold. When we informed the staff, all we received was a brief apology with the excuse that the food had come down in the lift, and there was no way to know it had arrived. We raised the issue with two different staff members on three separate occasions, but nothing was done to rectify it. The table behind us also returned their food because it was stone cold. Overall, a very disappointing experience.
The Sly Old Fox is ideally placed if you want a pub meal before the theatre, food is served promptly, a wide range of gins, no ales, lagers or Guinness only.Food: 5/5
A good experience. The place has a nice atmosphere. The food was good but I've had better in other pubs in the city centre. The service is on point however and there is a pleasant vibe.Food: 3/5
Great pub with some lovely food, we stopped off to have a drink and a snack before visiting the back to backs across the road, the prices were reasonable for the area and the chips are lovely. Vegetarian options: The menu has plenty of vegetarian options and some vegan options also.
Great fun place to be for casual drinks or events from theatre district, brilliant atmosphere, great staff, nothing too much trouble. Excellent selection of Gin, Ales and Lagers and bar tapas and full extensive menu, try and visit here every time I am in Birmingham now.Try it! Absolutely beautiful food. Never had a bad meal yet! You can tell all the meals are freshly made to order and none of this microwave stuff. The staff are lovely, friendly and will always have a chat with you and always welcome you with a massive smile. A testament to a well ran pub with perfect ales a d gins on offer and other drinks also. Already planning my next visit. Thanks guys!!!!!
Great spot and place for a drink if you're seeing a show at the Hippodrome. Haven't eaten here in a long time but hope to do so next time as the food looked good. Service was good and the place felt safe we've stopped drinking at some of the pubs nearby.Service: 5/5
Fantastic pub located in the city centre in the heart of the Villa, neighbouring China Town. A diverse mix of individuals can be found within the pub, due to it being being located near New Street Station and opposite the Hippodrome Theatre. The pub serves a high quality range of lagers and cask beer and food, and is always clean. Bar staff are always polite, courteous and informative. The manager is extremely friendly and welcoming, he also had a great sense of humour. The pub benefits from several characteristic features, mainly it's old-school brass bar and quaint interior. My favourite pub in Birmingham. In my opinion this is the best independent pub in Birmingham, head and shoulders above the homogenous chain pubs found littered throughout the city.. Cannot wait for my next visit!
