Reviews
Astonishingly mediocre fare. Prices slightly lower than typical fine dining in London but quality of food is far, far worse than average. Service is just fine, if harried, as expected.
We booked here and due a miscommunication our booking got cancelled. However they called and apologised profusely for the mix up and offered us a table at time we had booked for. The manager also said he would make sure there was a bottle of champagne on our table as a further apology for the mix up.. It's a set menu, either 2 or 3 courses and offers great value for money as everyone in our party really enjoyed their meals All the dishes were beautifully presented and served by helpful, attentive staff. There are a couple of supplements on the menu but most Prix Fixe menus have this so not unexpected. If you're going to see something at the National Theatre this place ticks all the boxes. Location ,food ,great value and good service. But you do need to book as understandably it's very very popular.
High-end food prepared well and delivered in an excellent atmosphere. The food at House is excellent and really striving for excellence. Portions are modest but well-judged for a pre-theatre dining experience. I had the signature cauliflower dish which was brilliant, followed by an exceptional piece of roasted cod - I haven't had a dish this good in ages. My sticky toffee pudding was light with a rich miso caramel sauce and very moreish. Our desserts were mixed up by service but this wasn't the end of the world. One negative I would say that doesn't help this is the obliqueness of the menu - the abstract listing of the ingredients rather than naming a dish means it can be difficult to judge exactly what it is you're going to get. I don't mind experimenting but explicitly labelling the dish may help some patrons to match their expectations. Service was kind and attentive without being pushy. If you get a view of the Thames it really completes the experience so try to get one of those tables if you can. A really exciting restaurant and even more so since it has only recently reopened after a long closure. Chef Joe Allen is one to watch.
A nice place to return to. Food was well made and the young personnel very gentle.
Limited set menu but tasty and generous portions. Service was a bit iffy. But convenience and good value for money for pre-theatre dinner
A wonderful experience. I was earlier than my friends and was immediately welcomed by all staff with a smile apiece. Food was stunning and, as a vegetarian, there were interesting choices. I was amazed by the lettuce crisps! Apparently grilled, then roasted. My friends adored their pork and mackerel dishes too. As for our main waitress, she could have sat with us for all I cared. Wonderful.
Wonderful restaurant, amazing atmosphere and friendly staff. food is delicious and the wine selection is fantastic 10/10
Limited menu to start and then disappointed that the Chicken dish was not available on the night. Small portions and definitely over priced. Poor service - more like a canteen! Thankfully Nicola Walker play was excellent so our evening ended well.
very disappointed with the food - both 'cold' and 'hot' food was tepid. Menu very limited and all portions very small. The only redeeming feature was the lovely staff. VERY poor value. I have always loved the NT - cant believe they cant support a good restaurant still - after all these years
Fun atmosphere and great food for a pre-theatre treat
