A fantasticly stylish place which retains the pub like feel. A great selection of ales, really love the Hofmeister Weiss beer. Great food, starters were excellent, the chilli is the tastes I have ever had the mains did not last long enough to have a picture taken. A must visit Canterbury pub.
Canterbury has many public houses, however, most of them belong to the local brewer Shepherd Neame. It is refreshing to find a Free House which is warm and welcoming and serves good food and a different range of beers. The beer is well kept and the food of good quality. It's also dog friendly, even though I don't have a dog . Visited on a Sunday and the pub was busy. The piped music is fine when there are a few guests, however, with too many people, the music gets turned up and the conversation gets very loud, which can be quite overpowering. This doesn't mean it's raucous, however, I would not recommend coming here for a quiet drink when there are too many people. Just my preference
This pub was recommended to us and now we know why. A friendly atmosphere with welcoming staff. The food was excellent and all freshly cooked. The list of allergens on the back of the menu was very helpful when making our choices. The Monument certainly deserves the 5 star rating, we would love a return visit.
Great food, wide selection of drinks including plenty from local breweries and cider-makers, and excellent music - I don't know of any other pubs where you can drink a dandelion and burdock while listening to Frank Zappa! NB: Since changing ownership The Monument is no longer an all-vegan pub as some older reviews that are still visible state. There are plenty of vegan dishes on the menu though, and all are very nice!
We went to the Monument for lunch today and loved it. As a coeliac, I could eat most things on the menu and the allergens menu on the back was really clear. I felt really confident to eat here. The food was great - I had falafel to start and veggie tagine with rice for my main. Both were delicious! The drinks options are fab and there was even had gluten free beer. My partner had the lamb burger and loved it. He loved that the the dishes are homemade, produce is local and has great flavour. We'll definitely be back :
Went there on our visit to Canterbury when we were looking for a pet friendly place. The starters where lovely but personally I was truly amazed with the fries with parmesan that was recommended by the girl behind the bar who was also very friendly. The burger that I ordered was amazing. My mum wasn’t very happy with her veggie option as it was a little bit much curry which wasn’t specified on the menu. Overall it was a good time and if we ever go back to the city we will come again to this pub.
Would highly recommend to anyone, food is beyond fantastic with an exciting veggie/vegan offering and the drinks on offer are phenomenal this included niche selections that I don't often see and staff happy to listen/are truly accomodating. This place is such a rare find, and a true gem nowadays. Not only this, the atmosphere is friendly, beautiful and warming from entrance to exit, decor and otherwise, I honestly cannot wait to go back with others. Nice work!
A super friendly pub with beautiful interiors and a cosy garden outside. A well curated range of wines & drinks alcohol free too and options for vegetarians. A laid back ambience, well suited for groups, couples or solo- I have been as all three and have had an equally good experience. Will be back!
Friendly staff and good food, only thing I would say is that it's a little pricey! But, had a really enjoyable atmosphere! Can happily recommend!
What can I say, amazing food, lovely sized portions in a Vegan restaurant for once!!!!!!! First Vegan restaurant that does ‘pub-food’ right. Service and ambiance were great and the menu see pictures was fantastic. They were out of red wine after a festival but that was fine. I will change this rating to a 5 star one when they remove themselves from Gourmet Society after I couldn’t use my card and get 25% off. Apparently this is because of the last owner and they are having trouble coming off the list. Of course they could instead just join GS and that way more people can use the service and make savings!!! OMG the ‘Monumental’ burger is aptly names and just fantastic
