Midland Suite is fantastic, more like an apartment. The reception team was absolutely brilliant and could not do enough for you. Thank you so much. You made a real difference to our stay and are the stars of the show. Tried to get some food not long after we arrived, but we were told there was no space, Found the chap in the restaurant quite rude in his approach. Then, we decided to have a drink and order room service. Bar staff are not particularly great. Waited a long time, and we weren't even acknowledged. We only stopped for one drink, and it then took us over 20 mins to be able to settle the tab. Room service was great for what it was. Expected a better quality breakfast for the price, but the overall experience did not disappoint. Rooms: Offer a range of rooms and suites to suit every budget. Nicely decorated and comfortable. Nearby activities: Library, museums, galleries, and theatre all within walking distance. Walkability: The hotel is located next to St Peters Square where there is a tram stop that can take you to Piccadilly station, Victoria station of into the city centre. Ideal location if you can't walk far but need to get around. The trams here also go to Bury, Ashton-under-Lyne, Altrincham, and Manchester Airport.
I've worked it out now. Some hotels are new, with updated decor and sparkle into a 4 star rating, and other hotels are much older and seem to ride on the coat tails of their past, to cling onto the 4 star. The Midland fails into the latter catagory. The lobby was spectacular. A raised central area housed the cocktail bar and 3 Living trees. It was quite impressive. The rooms were lovely, if you managed to find it through the maze of corridors.
Had a wonderful stay here for our wedding anniversary. Upon check-in we were given a greeting card to wish us a wonderful celebration and a gift card for 2 free drinks at the bar. The hotel room was luxurious, clean and spacious. Very quiet during the night. Would highly recommend.Rooms: 5/5
Terrible sleeps **Review of the Midland Hotel Manchester** During my recent stay at the Midland Hotel in Manchester, I found several aspects of the experience both delightful and disappointing. **Pros:** 1. **Nice Breakfast:** The breakfast spread was impressive, offering a wide variety of delicious options that catered to different tastes. It was a great way to start the day. 2. **Spacious Room:** The room I stayed in was spacious and comfortable, providing plenty of room to relax and unwind. 3. **Good Looking Bar Area:** The bar area was stylish and inviting, making it an excellent spot to enjoy a drink in the evening. **Cons:** 1. **Air-Conditioning Issues:** Unfortunately, the air-conditioning in my room did not work. It was apparent that the hotel was aware of this issue, as there were extra fans placed in the room. This felt like a deceptive practice, and it left me feeling tricked. The lack of proper cooling made it difficult to sleep because the room felt like a sauna. 2. **Misguided Reception Staff:** When I asked the reception staff for directions to the spa area, they provided incorrect information, sending me to a different floor. This was frustrating and inconvenient. 3. **Ignored Room Request:** Despite emailing in advance to request a bath in my room, this request was ignored. Consequently, I had to move rooms twice during my stay, which was a significant inconvenience. I chose to stay at the Midland Hotel to take my wife on a romantic weekend for our anniversary. These issues significantly impacted what was meant to be a special and memorable occasion. Overall, while the Midland Hotel has some excellent features, there were several service issues that detracted from the overall experience. I would appreciate a resolution to these problems, as they significantly affected our stay. Addressing these issues would greatly improve the experience for future guests and restore my confidence in the hotel. Rooms: I recently stayed in an Executive Room at the Midland Hotel in Manchester. While the room was spacious and featured a large, soft bed that added to its comfort, the experience was somewhat marred by a few issues. The decor, while fitting with the hotel's historic style, felt a bit dated, and the worn carpet detracted from the overall impression. Most notably, the air-conditioning was not functioning properly, making the room uncomfortably warm and sauna-like. Despite these shortcomings, the room’s size and the hotel's classic charm were redeeming features.
We had a fantastic stay at this hotel last night. The room was lovely, the place was clean and staff very friendly and professional. The bed was so comfy. The interior decor is absolutely gorgeous. The location was perfect as it was in the city centre and close to everything but also not near any loud clubs. The walls in between rooms are thick as I'm a light sleeper but were not disturbed once by other guests
Location: 9/10 Bed: 10/10 Pillows: 10/10 Shower water pressure: 10/10 Room lighting: 2/10 Well-placed electrical sockets: 10/10 Customer service: 8/10 The Midland was centrally located, only a 10 minute walk from Piccadilly and next to the tram. It’s a 5-minute walk to China Town which is underwhelming and Gay Village. The hotel team was very friendly and helpful. The best part of the stay was really the comfort of the bed and the pillows were amazing – not like the standard pillows that immediately deflate should anything more than a feather land on the surface. Areas for improvement: natural lighting was non-existent in my room and the overall lighting situation was so poor, I needed to use my phone. That brings me to the electrical sockets. I appreciated that there were two accessible outlets on each side of the bed above the night tables – something that many hotels lack. The bathroom was small with your face practically in the sink given the too small toilet squeezed into the side. Storage was okay inside as far as placing shower caddy. Customer service was pretty good, the only reason I give it an 8 is because the concierge just stood there while we struggled to get our bags through the door. The least that could have been done was holding the door open, but he literally just watched. And that was if the concierge was even present at the desk as most of the times I didn’t see one maybe he was helping other guests, just didn’t think we needed it. Recommendations: The room I stayed was outdated, though I believe the hotel is updating rooms in sections. The TV is very small and I would recommend that with the room updates, better lighting or easily accessible lamps that do not require continuous manual movement to cut on/off as well as USB/C-chargers within electrical outlets. Nearby activities: I recommend going to Affleck, this shopping area full of independent shop owners. It's quirky. Special thanks to Todd at the lounge and champagne bar for his amazing customer service and dry wit and humour we owe him credit for making our extended honeymoon a fabulous stay at the midland. The spa was also 10/10 I can’t remember the time I was so relaxed. We’ve stayed in every luxury hotel in Manchester more than once and the midland can’t be beaten.
My friend and I came for an overnight stay with access to the spa and a treatment. It was SO relaxing. We stayed on a Sunday night and the Spa area did start to get busy but not too much. Everything was perfect.Rooms: 5/5
Dropped in for breakfast but was a tad disappointed. The surroundings are most attractive with a strong sense of the past but the food was not what was expected with a distinct look of having been cooked some time before. Suspect that it was prepared earlier for overnight guests. Nonetheless, would consider a stay here on our next trip into Manchester. Nearby activities: Excellent location for all Manchester attractions much of which can be found within walking distance. Otherwise, the nearby tram system is a delightful way to travel further afield.
Has been one of the best hotels in the city but needs the bar to be staffed and look after customers. Overall good but it could be great with a few small tweaks. In this day and age, the little things will keep you on top of the ordinaryRooms: 4/5
