Lovely pub with various areas to sit in . The outside is lovely but a bit warm under the plastic roof, the views to the hills are ample compensation. We went for the restaurant area where the seats are more comfortable and you can still just about get the views! Food was well prepared and presented. Service although slow at times was friendly and polite. The food tasted very good and was a good portion. The koffmann fries were very good. Overall pricing gives you a high degree of expectation, which they haven't quite achieved yet.
Went for lunch on a Saturday. Place was very clean and staff attentive. Good food and drinks as well. Burger / pie and gammon and all eaten. Staff were very good - would happily go back
As Vegans, my partner and I are often disappointed whilst eating out. The Lime Kiln inn was a total contrast, nothing was to much trouble, very comfortable seating area, friendly staff and the Vegan meals we both had were exemplary. All our food was delicious and a flavour explosion with each mouthful. The attention to detail was exquisite and all our dishes were art on a plate. I cannot recommend highly enough and will definitely be returning
My wife and I stopped by on our way home from London tonight. It was our first visit, I go past a lot but never had the time to pop in for a meal, tonight we resolved that. We were met at the door by a polite lady, I didn't get a name as there were no formal introductions, I don't volunteer my name as I find it spoils the experience once an establishment realizes who I am. We were shown through to the restaurant and a drink order was taken as the kitchen was not open for a few more minutes. We had dined rather heavily in London and I was only looking for a sandwich to keep the old blood sugars up, but alas there were none on the menu. The sign outside said traditional English menu, but I could find no scampi either and as my followers know, I do love my scampi.... We nearly went for the gammon, egg and chips but it was unclear if this was a gammon steak or gammon ham - so we went off piste and ordered something we have never had, breaded whitebait and chunky chips. The meal was swiftly prepared and brought out within 5-7 minutes and was very well presented and looked delicious. Turns out that we really do not like whitebait, it had lots of bones and spines and was quite an oily fish, my hands still smell of fish now and the cats won't leave me alone, they think I'm some kind of tasty treat! This is not a reflection of the Line Kiln or the staff, they were lovely and the premises was awesome, it just wasn't "our meal", We will return and try the gammon, egg and chips however
Excellent Sunday lunch. My husband had the roast beef and I had the roast pork, both Excellent. Great staff and service was very quick. Highly recommend
A 17th-century former cider house, now converted into a very acceptable traditional pub/restaurant Part of the Butcombe brewery chain and on the Cask MarqueAleTrail. The number of ales available may vary from one to three. The main bar area has a flag stoned floor with a large inglenook fireplace which they light with logs in the winter. There is an adjoining recently refurbished restaurant, with large opening doors that lead onto the garden for summer use. The restaurant is a more modern addition to this 200 year old pub first licence granted 1814. The food is excellent, prepared on the premises and rarely has cause for complaint. There's a changing specials board in addition to the main menu. My visit this day was to record the event by scanning their Cask Marque Accreditation Certificate and to entertain two long-standing friends, who were themselves publicans. Having been successfully in the business themselves, they had and still have, very exacting standards - she as a chef and he as a cellarman. I am pleased to say, neither of them could find fault with the service prompt and affable, very customer focused the provender all our meals were delectable and the beer Butcomb's Rare Breed 3.4% in noble condition and were more than pleased with my choice of venue. A very enjoyable lunch and not the last time we will have one there.
Went for lunch with a party of 4. Everyone's food looked nice, though no one raved about it. However, my meal, the fish finger sandwich was a real disappointment. I paid the same as my partner who had a huge piece of fish & chips. My sandwich had a measly little fish finger, a piece of lettuce and a slice of tomato. Very bland and bad value.
Tried to book on-line a table for 8 and received an automatic reply advising me that they would get back to me to confirm the booking. Four days later I still haven't had confirmation! Phoned to enquire, they again confirmed the booking had been received but they are closed on Monday and the manager hadn't got round to letting me know, couldn't be bothered is more accurate. We will go elsewhere for less shabby treatment.
After a long drive and in need of food, we walked in and we’re Instantly judged. Offered only a dark corner of the of the main bar and not even a seat in the restaurant! We had to use our phone torches to read the menu! When the food arrived, it didn’t get any better. Portions small and my better half’s King prawn and Brixham crab was lacking the crab, couple with a tiny and soggy garlic and herb ciabatta. They then had the cheek to attempt adding a 10% service charge to a already disappointing £60 meal and experience. Awful service. Avoid!
First time for me in here but it won't be my last. Excellent service and beautiful food.....we sat in the bar tonight and had our meal, as they have a huge fire in there
