The Leconfield

About

A local, friendly Gastropub serving affordable food at a high standard, a good selection of real ales locally sourced and independent beers & wine.

Story

The Leconfield Public House was built between 1829 and 1846, known originally as The Royal Oak. Encompassing a massive acre and a half, the land was purchased by a George Brown in 1821. The original address was Victory Place and was later added to the cattle run that was Green Lanes, connecting Hertfordshire to Smithfield Market. Complete with stables, this pub would have been an important asset to the local people and tradesmen.

The building that stands now was rebuilt in 1926. Still under the name, The Royal Oak, the business was a well-known community pub. In the nineties, the venue became a gay nightclub known as The Oak Bar, which ran until early 2013.

For this exciting reincarnation as The Leconfield, we have uncovered and restored distinct original features. From the Tudor Roses on the exterior, to the 1920s cream tiles to the large oak bar, the historical roots have been revealed and celebrated. For example, during the renovation we unearthed Tottenham Football Club fixture lists from 1937, with hand-written dates, in addition to another list from 1987. We look forward to sharing this carefully-preserved heritage with our customers.

We have added some art deco 1930s and 1940s stylistic elements such as chandeliers and chesterfield sofas. Exposed original brickwork creates a vintage feel as do the tallboy stools along the windows. Two large skylights provide ample natural light for eating and conversation and show off the spaciousness of the large pub. Our early twentieth-century design highlights the authentic and friendly nature of this public house.

Renaming the pub The Leconfield is a way to bring a sense of community to the premises. We provide local people, passers-by and one-off visitors with the best of London’s pubs. Serving locally sourced food to a high standard along with London’s most exciting beers and spirits, we strive to give community and independent companies a platform, as well as share our own produce along the way. We offer a carefully-chosen wine list, with regular menu specials, and great staff. Working with and for the local area will bring back the feel of a Public House.

Had a great Sunday Roast- possibly the best I've had in Stoke Newington! Friendly and welcoming staff. Dog friendly too!
Lovely staff, and we are huge fans of the quiz. Food and drink a bit hit and miss.
Lively pub and great for all sport, with tasty hot food available. Good cask beer and selection of wines. If you're an older drinker or a young family this pub uniquely caters for both. It's a wonderful convivial local!!
Large, open pub with plenty of tables for eating at and lots of large sofas. Good selection of beers. It's clearly also a good place to watch sport, with several large screens. We were there on a Saturday evening and a lot of people arrived to watch the boxing.
Absolutely amazing Vegan Roast! I would wholeheartedly recommend. The atmosphere and service was outstanding. Make sure you book as it’s a busy pub. Happy Sunday
Friendly, good atmosphere, good food
