Story

The King's Head in Chipping Ongar is a beautiful 17th-century pub, restored with great care – but it’s also a thoroughly modern meeting place, right in the heart of the town of Chipping, Ongar. We’ve even got plenty of parking.

Our decked outdoor space is a lovely spot to enjoy a few drinks, or even alfresco dining when the weather is right. Our carefully considered food menu is as fresh, characterful and well-sourced as we can possibly make it – and we really care about presentation, too.

Booked a separate room for my daughter's baby shower and very happy that I did. The food was fabulous with attentive staff. Nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely be returning on a regular basis. Thank you

Have eaten here a few times with friends and family and absolutely loved it on every occasion. So easy to book, food was lovely, decor is great, staff really helpful and nice. My last visit I had my two children (2.5 and 1) they were so accommodating for us, didn’t seem to mind them on the floor for a little while playing. Plus my son is dairy free and they were able to make adjustments for us....thank you! The dark hot chocolate is amazing too. Hidden gem x

Lovely venue, lovely food but it stinks like its been on fire at the high street entrance. The restaurant doesn't smell like that at all. If it had I wouldn't have stayed. Would def go back again.

Gorgeous building, stylishly renovated. Always a nice atmosphere, just wish they'd clear and wipe down the tables throughout the day. Could be ten times nicer if it was kept cleaner and tidier throughout trading hours.

Had light lunch here. Smoked salmon sandwich with some green and tomatoes on the side. Very nice food. Friendly staff. Not too badly priced too.
