Service was none existent, but the food was lovely.n1st experience and we had no idea where to go to find our table. We had an initial drink order when we were seated but when the rest of our party joined we had to grab a server to order them a drink. We weren't in a rush but it was a long while before anyone came back to take our order. We had to ask to order extra drinks when there was pile of empty glasses that never got cleared in the corner of our table. The food was lovely, hot and tasted good. We then waited 20 minutes for the desert menu, and then had to ask to order our deserts. The table next to us went to the bar to get their drinks during a sit down meal. It was like no one was assigned to our table so we had 4 different servers during the meal.
A Birthday Feast with a Side of Warm Fuzzies and PeasnnWe celebrated a milestone birthday here, the big 50 and from the moment we walked in, the service had us feeling like VIPs, or at least Very Important Pie-eaters.nnI went straight in for the Three Cheese & Onion Pie: tarragon and garlic tucked in a golden shortcrust pastry, lounging in a cheese and chive sauce, and flanked by a honey-glazed bacon steak. The thick-cut chips were proper doorstops, and the mushy peas were so good I briefly considered proposing to them.nnMy wife chose the turkey roast with pork and herb stuffing and a Yorkshire pudding so big it could double as a birdbath. The only quibble? The plate was a touch on the “pleasantly warm” side rather than piping hot.nnDessert was skipped because the birthday boy had a cake ready to go. In fairness, turning 50 is a good enough excuse to eat your bodyweight in frosting.nnWould we come back? Absolutely. Next time, I’m saving room for pudding, and maybe asking for my plate to be just a shade hotter.
Great little Sunday roast in here. I had the platter with my partner and we really enjoyed it. The roast pork was especially tasty. I’d comenBack just for that next time. Plenty of options if you’re not into a roast too. Will be back. Recommend booking on a Sunday as very busy.
My son and I went in half 6 Saturday evening having just phoned ahead to check. Pub was bustling with a good atmosphere and the restaurant was filling up.nnLovely friendly staff tended to us throughout the meal which was delicious!nnI had the chicken fillet, which had lovely crispy skin and the caramelised onion and potato gratin was fantastic and all held together with a great sauce. He had rump steak, medium rare, which was really nicely cooked.nnDesserts were equally good. I had sticky toffee pudding which was moist with lots of toffee sauce and a really generous helping of ice cream. He had the chocolate and salted caramel cake which was chocoholics heaven!nnHighly recommended.
A group of 20 visited for New Year's Eve and we're really pleased we chose the John Millington. The booking process was really smooth, we were asked to order food in advance and everything came out hot, freshly prepared and correct. They also didn't hike the prices for New Year and we were able to select from the normal menu.nnAfter dinner we were treated to a disco and live music. We were handed party poppers for midnight when there was a countdown and Auld Lang Sine.nnWhat made it even more pleasant was the friendliness and efficiency of the whole team of staff who all worked really hard, were helpful and friendly with smiles on their faces. It was a great start to the new year and I wish them continued success. They definitely deserve it.
