My Fathers birthday We arrived and it all seemed great, we ordered our mains and continued, but when a sharing steak for 2/4 of our guests arrived it was stone cold, we dismissed it and finished our mains. HOWEVER it took half an hour from our mains to be even asked if we wanted desserts. From there it just went all down hill. After another twenty minutes we eventually asked at the bar for dessert menus once again. We ordered and continued, but once again the same 2/4 members from our party ordered sticky toffee pudding each, they were both stone cold.. one of our party ordered a pint of coke at the exact same time desserts were ordered, and it arrived AFTER all desserts were completely finished, at that point we were ready for the bill and to go… Honestly food was high quality and good but would’ve been better warmer, just the service lets this restaurant down!! There was ONE other party in the restaurant besides us at the time and it doesn’t feel the best to be forgotten, especially in a restaurant as highly rated as this… Do better!!!
This is a beautiful restaurant with quirky decor, food we lovely but the slow service let this restaurant down and lack of staff. Booked table for 1pm, took drinks orders 40 minutes later, food order about 10 minutes later and served our meals at 2.20pm. Food was lovely, but not worth the 1 hour and 20 minute wait. Parking: Not many parking spaces out front so parked on main street.
Nice enough inside, though the decor is a bit kitsch. Food was decent on the set menu, but nothing special. Not bad for the price. The normal menu is much more expensive and perhaps better. The problem was the service. When I went, it was very quiet, and when I arrived the staff outnumbered the customers, but even when I left it was at least 11 staff I counted to 40 patrons, so the staff certainly weren't having to dash about! Despite this, I still had to wait a minute at the bar after being seen by the bar staff, so that they could finish taking selfies with each other. At dinner our waitress was surly, and didn't say please or thank you once all evening, even though we were very friendly and polite. We had to wait a long time to order and to request a bill. When we asked to pay separately she rolled her eyes. When they mistakenly added a load of drinks from another table, they resolved it after a few minutes but the waitress still didn't say sorry or acknowledge the mistake once.
Excellent,we celebrated my lovely sister and brother in laws 50th wedding anniversary. The food was amazing and so delicious, service was really good and staff very friendly. Would definitely recommend and will certainly be back. Thank you all very much for making a special occasion a pleasure for all our family. Kid-friendliness: Catered well for the kids. They loved it.
Went here for a birthday treat. The decor is absolutely beautiful. We were shown straight to our table. Our drinks were brought out swiftly and our order was taken. We had an oyster each for starters, should have had 2. They were delicious. I had the Fillet steak for main, 2nd best Fillet steak I have ever had. And I have had a fair few. All in all a great dining experience. Impeccable!
It was my 75th birthday with daughter and hubby….no recognition of this despite being informed when booking, my son in law’s starter of pork belly was not cooked!!..he wouldn’t complain because of the occasion…I did but it went unnoticed by the young waitress!! I asked for chips with my main course as an option to mashed potato…the chips were described as “triple cooked”!!.. they were humongous pieces of potato that were barely fried!! and we were charged £4.50 as an”extra”!!…all in all the food was disappointing and radically over priced!!…value for money “NO” and I will not be going back there!!…you do NOT deserve the recognition you get from local residents!!…Sophie Williams
Food was good but not as good as I was hoping given the prices, my pint of beer was off so I asked it to be changed which they did nice and quickly. Service was good. Maybe I need to visit again to rate the food again but I am in no way rushing to go back.Food: 3/5
First time experience and was very disappointed. Booked in advance dinner for 6 for a birthday celebration Bar was cozy but restaurant area was freezing Seemed very understaffed and basics weren’t done Restaurant area looked lovely and seemed to have a lovely vibe but took ages from getting menus to place and then get our food order Between courses extra cutlery and crockery was not cleared away including olive stones left on the table Empty water jug placed on table rather than refilled No checking that food was ok when it eventually did arrive Ordered extra drinks throughout meal which took ages to arrive Food was ok but nothing special Once we decided to head back to the bar waited so long for the bill one of the party went to the till to pay Ordered extra drinks at the bar including cocktails and coffee all entered into the till Coffee brought with no milk and one of the cocktails was missing After waiting for a time I approached the bar and the staff member was in the kitchen and had forgotten to complete our order Definitely not worth the money After reading the reviews the lack of staffing seems to be a running theme Shame as has the potential to be a fab place
The only reason I give 1 is that our server was good fun and did try to guide us through a dreadful experience and the setting is really very good. Regret that is where the good news ends. Apologies for the long story but it really needs telling. Started badly with a pint that was sour before our meal. On sitting down we waited for 30 minutes for someone to take our drinks order even though there was plenty of staff and not many diners. 10 minutes later we were told that they couldn't find the Albarino we asked for. We asked for advice on the other wines and the bar/wine man had no idea, he just suggested the one wine that he had tried and liked. Before our food order was taken the smoke alarms went off as the kitchen fans had failed. The back door was wedged open for most of the evening but the general fug from the kitchen continued. Our food order was taken 45 minutes after sitting down with the starting news that there was no fresh shellfish available. Strangely there was still the seafood cocktail available which in retrospect most likely meant that it was frozen. Of the 4 starters only the soup was acceptable. The crispy duck was burnt to be inedible, the souffle rose to 3cm on arrival and then dropped to a flat horrible glue on the plate, both were sent back. The seafood cocktail was edible but tasteless. Of the mains the meat pie crust was burnt and the supposedly wagu beef filling glutinous and awful. The cod was similarly tasteless and truly bad. The venison was overcooked. We did not dare try a pudding! It could be that we just hit a bad night but I suspect the place is on the slide, living on its past record. No one seemed in charge and neither of the two chefs I saw looked happy to be there! My strong recommendation is to avoid this place at all costs!
Food is really rather good. Interior design is great. Location is good too. Unfortunately on the day I went they seemed a little understaffed and so waiting to have my order taken and my bill printed took an awfully long time. Food came quickly though so obviously plenty of staff in the kitchen! I would definitely go back to see if the slow service was a one-off or more common.
