The Holburne gave us a sense of what Bath would have been like in its heyday, the museum like Bath then, is full of treasures small and large including some very imposing Reynolds portraits and the tiniest of miniature curia. Definitely worth a visit.
A very interesting museum with an eclectic collection of paintings, ceramics and other objects, also with a cafe which backs onto lovely gardens.nnThere was a Mr Doodle exhibition on when we visited, which was also a lot of fun and the juxtaposition of his work against the more ‘traditional’ art on display was very clever! We also got to see Mr Doodle doing a live drawing session.
Very disappointing the cafe offers no real food and was very crowded. Also the Gainsborough - a very nice one - was easy to find but no indication of the location of the cabinet and what was very strange - no one, not even security, in the museum to ask. They had some very bad modern art in the middle of some of the rooms which didn’t create at all to the paintings. The one piece we liked the most was strangely blocked from full view by another piece! see photo.
Awful service at the café. Uncleared tables. Dirty. Girl with brown hair in a bun literally rolled her eyes at me as I asked at the counter if someone can wipe the table where we were about to sit. She also needed to be asked to clear it before, after which she just left it covered in spilled drinks. Plain awful service. Ruins the nice atmosphere and overall setting of the museum.
Went to see Paula Rego and Goya exhibition not disappointed. Would recommend a visit just to walk down pultenley road
