This is a lovely steam railway running from Parkend to Lydney, Rtn. Runs more frequent in the summer, themed trains and santa train for Christmas is great fun for families.
Well worth the money, had an excellent trip! Lots of history to see. The tickets were a very reasonable price, the museum was great and entrance to that was free! The gift shop has a lot of variety, and the cafe was reasonably priced as well, loved the cake! A disused train carriage is now used as a shop, selling second hand books, toys etc, a lovely touch. There is decent disability access both at the center and on the train with some very spacious and open carriages in amongst the others, allowing plenty of room for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Dogs are allowed also. Not a single complaint to be made, it was great. I will definitely be visiting again with the kids!
Great day out on beautiful steam railway. Clean carriages, allowed to take food and drink on the journey, invited on the footplate of the engine to see it up close.
A wonderful day. We bought a Rover ticket, so you can hop on and off all day. First train at 10:15 last train at 16:50. Lovely rides, wonderful volunteers with a lot to chat about. Totally relaxing. The single ride is short yes, but if you take it a few times with a lunch at Whitecroft, the Miners Arms perfect beer and lunch, you will see some of the countryside and the Forest of Dean. But the love for this steam train and the detail/renovation of the stations and the people running it, makes it very special and a wonderful day. We loved it!
This end of the line is lovely too! You can watch the engine run round, and take on water. We got off here, while the train continued, giving us time to look in the small antique shop across from the station
