The Hat and Tun

About

An East London boozer built on tradition

Story

With our first class real ales, premium draught lagers, excellent wines and spirits, award-winning homemade pie and mash – pubs don’t get much more traditional than the Hat and Tun in Hatton Garden.

No bells and whistles necessary to draw local residents and workers to this drinking den time and time again, just the promise of a warm welcome and quick service in comfortable surroundings, as well as the occasional pub quiz of course!

Great local pub with decent prices … not over-crowded and not a lot of tourists. Very local experience - yet with Heineken on tap. Who likes Heineken??? Highlight: a big blue shark on the wall next to some antlers, fun and random combination good place for a short stop before heading on through busy London
I recently hosted a private event in the pub for a milestone birthday and the venue and team were brilliant throughout. The team were super accommodating of every request and I would specifically call out Michael and the team who worked the bar that evening. Nothing was too much trouble and they contributed to a great event!Service: 5/5
Finished work and came here for a couple of pints before catching the train home from Farringdon. £4 per pint, Monday to Friday, 11am until 5pm, makes this place one of the cheapest options around, particularly if you’re not a fan of Weatherspoon pubs which I’m not. Three cask ale pumps but none on, at the time of my visit, contrary to the pub’s description here. Nevertheless, £4 for a decent pint of Guinness is not to be sniffed at. A proper regular’s pub, which I like, and I don’t mind the swearing. Unfortunately, cheap prices also attract people who get a bit leery by 4:30pm; one of whom took exception to me for sitting at the bar, minding my own business maybe because I was wearing a suit & tie?. I ignored him, and carried on minding my own business, but I do think that the Polish manager who appeared to be a nice guy should have subtly reprimanded this guy. I’ve been here once before but now wouldn’t recommend. It would be a horrible experience for an unsuspecting tourist to be abused in such a manner. Thankfully I have a thick skin!
Came here for Electric Shuffleboard. Unfortunately Shuffleboard was not electric, or level, and was missing a puck. Over £5 for a pint of lemonade, but then it is London. Otherwise nicely presented and friendly staff. Cool shark!
Cracking pub with a shuffleboard and all pints are a 5er, all day, every day. An absolute treat for central London. Nice lively vibe, I'm a big fan.Service: 5/5
Great atmosphere and decor! Staff were really attentive and nice affordable pints ! Will defo be backService: 5/5
Had a lovely evening in the Hat and Tun £5 a pint in central London is unheard of delightfully served by a welcoming team will definitely returnService: 5/5
It's a good cheap pub for Farringdon, quite traditional. However please sort your men's toilets out, they absolutely STINK of old urine and ammonia. We reserved an area at the back and spent the whole evening with the stench of wee wafting at us whenever the door was opened.Service: 4/5
This is more of a one quick pint destination, rather than a let’s get together and have a few.Service: 5/5
Noisy blokey type pub. Not one to take your nearest and dearest to. No real ale despite three hand pumps. It was a warm day on my visit and cigarette smoke wafted in from the smokers outside. It’s a pity as the inside is quite traditional despite the two tv screens showing the cricket which no one was watching. All pints are £4 from 11am to 5pm which probably accounts for the loud atmosphere and the crowd at the bar.
