Ordered fish and chips for main and chocolate fudge cake for dessert. I was happy with the fish and chips and the tartar sauce was really lovely. Unfortunately the dessert was quite subpar despite its lovely presentation, it was very dry and had a weird taste not like chocolate fudge. My partner also had the sticky toffee pudding and it was the same, very dry, off tasting and clearly microwaved. I would probably steer clear of the desserts if I visited again, however the triple cooked chips were divine. I’d be interested in trying the Parmo next time. Atmosphere was lovely, such a big plot of land, plenty seats outside and in, staff were lovely and place was nice and clean inside and out.
Nice place plenty of free parking, well stocked bar and the staff are polite and professional but sometimes lack motivation and would rather flim flam about in little groups than serve customers. The bar is dog friendly if you like dogs but not as clicky as the customers I wouldn't drink in there, the lounge is much more sophisticated plenty of tables and places to sit. Now the bit I don't understand, they fitted loads of screens in the lounge area and have a drinks promotion on when football is shown on TV however if you're sitting in the lounge you have to order your drinks in the bar.... Strangest rule ever. There is a large outdoor area with plenty of tables and chairs but if the sun's out be quick as it's very popular. I can't comment on the food but it looks nice but a bit pricey. Overall I would recommend this place but could be so much better.
Visit for Sunday lunch 3pm ish booked in the restaurant was a few minutes late due to traffic through the Tyne tunnel. Waited 6 minutes to be seated x 2of us. 3 members of staff passed us still saying nothing to us.. Bad start . Finally got seated in the corner table number 23. Took a while to order a party of 12which was 5 children in the group but onto ice creams etc. Ordered 22 minutes later after asking staff to take our order. A man Came across 1 starter 2 drinks 2 main courses without black pudding on the pork Sunday dinner and daughter asked for a breast of chicken on her Sunday roast which she got!. My dinner came 28 minutes after the starter. It came with turned out to be the manager of the green. Guess what it came with black pudding and asked to take it off which he did with his bare hands !!!. I was so shocked I couldn't, get my words out . Finally I did and said that was so rude and bad to do that with his hands touching my carrots and cracking as he removed the black pudding!. He replied as he seen the shock on face my plate I will replate only your meal to my reply no!. Cold hard vegetables, soft pork cracking, mash potato under the pile of green cabbage etc. Ask where the roast pototo was to his reply Sold out none left !!!. Your joking and said takes 2 hours to cook potatoes . Offered more veg or piggy in the blankets asked for PIGS in blankets came out several minutes later on a small greasy side plate and 6 of them . Cold uncooked sausages and raw bacon wrapped around them didn't.t touch them as didn,t want to be I'll for Xmas week. No body came to asked if the food was ok . Half way through it Ate meat and Yorkshire pudding and some green vegetables and left the rest as did my daughter. Asked for the bill and came to the table. We got up and walked over to the bar to pay and only happy to pay for 2 drinks ,1 starter and my daughter's chicken dinner.and not for my pork dinner . By this time 1 young lady chief and 1 man young chief came out of the kitchen the male at the end of the bar laying across it and lady standing next to the coffee machine touching and playing with her hair. 2 server's young girls standing around them Listering to what I was saying . Told manager he needed a recap on customer service and a refresher health and hygiene course. He laughed in my face as did the other staff. Willing to pay to his reply I can,t possible ask you to pay anything . Asked for head office numbers and he wrote his name on my receipt and out of roast pototo,s. Time starter was ordered 3.22pm. And 20 minutes later our Sunday roast came out at 3.50pm. Walked away and could hear him talking about me to the 2 chiefs why couldn't,t they try to cook more roast potatoes as Sunday lunches served till 6pm on a Sunday standing in the bar area doing nothing and 2 server's . I will never return again. Shocking service very slow and last interest in customer service. No please or thank you no smile happy faces either Phoned head office today Monday to pass on my comments not expecting a reply from the greens area manager.
It wasn't as good as I remember but the Sunday dinner was still OK. The lamb was better than the beef. The veg carrots and brocolli would be better roasted. The 2 or 3 course deals are decent value and the desserts are really good. The staff are really young and either new or untrained.
Went here for Mother’s Day so it was quite busy when we arrived, slight delays in getting seated and taking orders but fully understandable. Roast beef dinner was absolutely spot on, perfectly pink and melt in the mouth. Had chocolate fudge cake for dessert and this was also really nice, a free glass of Prosecco was given to her indoors for Mothers Day which was a nice touch. Would definitely return.
I have been a regular visitor to The Green for 20 years but unfortunately it is no longer the place to visit, thanks to the awful management and staff lacking in customer service, they definitely do not look like they enjoy working there. Also regularly supply issues, several times when ordering food I have been told - 'we don't have that' or drnks 'it's off!'- no apologies given, sometimes it is easier to ask what is available before deciding! I am starting to wonder if this is a strategy to lose customer and close down???
Terrible. Came here for something to eat and left extremely disappointed and hungry. I ordered a burger and sent it back as soon as it arrived as it looked like it had been cooked for 3 days it was that burnt. Another member of our party had the curry and the onion bhajis were also burnt. We even joked that the pizza someone had on the table opposite was also burnt. I felt sorry for the young girl who had to keep apologising when what looked like the manager behind the bar didn't seem to care, even when she pointed out that the glass was dirty when she was pouring a pint. Also the tables were dirty and the chairs ripped as well. Such a shame for what used to be a lovely venue.
Absolutely delicious Sunday lunch, we had roast pork with stuffing & crackling, roast chicken, roast beef, trio of meats, plenty of gravy, turnip, mash, roasties & selection of broccoli, cauliflower, carrots & mange tou & massive Yorkshire pudding! Only one of us could manage a dessert. Great staff & excellent service highly recommend.
I have been coming into the green giro the last year, it is in fact our local and my partner and some of his family come in very regularly up until recently it has always been fine , however over the last 4 months it has started to slide. This is probably due to the fact that managerial staff keep disappearing and the bar staff and waiting staff just seem to do their own thing!!!! The young staff seem to be more in charge than the managerial staff. The staff should all be wearing the same clothing g when in fact they are not and should have long sleeves so they do not burn themselves on hot food, but they should NOt be wearing hoodies and look like they have just come in from the cold, they should not be disparaging g about other staff in the full view of customers present or past they are there to represent the pub itself and should do so. However, they are clearly NOT being trained in the correct way, some of them do not know how to open a Prosecco bottle not a wine with a cork in it. The tables are constantly sticky not the fault of young staff simply because they are being given the wrong tools and the inadequate trainiing, customers should be advised by staff that children should be seated when they are delivering hot food and the staff should be given carriers for the dirty glasses and NOT be carrying them in a way that is against Health and Safety. During Mothers Day it was chaotic and there was only 1 senior staff on I had to go and seek that last out and inform her one toilet was locked as it was out of order and another had been blocked so I advised her to open the disabled toilets which was locked. All these issues can be sorted and the staff trained correctly by having a GOOD Manager in place so PLEASE employ someone who has had all the relevant experience and not simply the least expensive route. You are asking these young people to do a difficult job at least TRAIN them for the situation and stop letting them gossip and shirk when the opportunity arises
Nice place food was just ok but did take over an hour to come out which spoilt our birthday celebrations. The duty manager was very helpful and is a credit to you.Food: 3/5
