An absolutely lovely village pub. Good food, clean, comfortable rooms and friendly, helpful staff, though they were a bit thin on the ground the first night I was there. The building dates back to the 1500s as you can tell from the low doorframes and uneven floors upstairs. The room I stayed in was clean and well decorated with a very comfortable bed and an ensuite bathroom with a nicely fitted shower cubicle and switchless, movement sensitive lighting, all very nice indeed! The pub is only a couple of minutes drive from Stourhead and not far from Longleat, all in all an excellent location for exploring the West Country. I greatly enjoyed my stay and hope to visit again the next time I spend a few days out west.
Popped in off the A303 for lunch on our way back from Devon. Lovely food. Lots of specials to choose from. Local trout was delicious. Big log fire. Wished we had more time to explore Mere.Service: 4/5
Came across The George as we were looking for somewhere to have Sunday lunch. Proper pub, friendly staff and the food was very good. We had the roast followed by bread and butter pudding...yum.
The young chef did really well..he should teach the old lady front of house some manners. She was just rude ..not fit for purpose. Lacked atmosphere..limited beers on offer. The chef will move on and do well for himself elsewhere.
A cozy and beautiful place. Old yet clean. Excellent service and friendly staff. I recommend that you stay here for one night if you happen to spend a day in Mere.Rooms: 5/5
For such a nice little village Mere lacks a decent pub. They are all bland to the extreme and this place is no different. Uninspiring drinks, snack and background music. Awful food.
Intoxicating mixture of what makes a good inn great. Nothing too much for the hosts, genuinely pleased to welcome you with a roaring fire and fine food and drink. Yet nothing stuffy. Good, honest and great value.Service: 5/5
Lovely pub nice staff, chef made the food fantastic the sticky toffee pudding was moist the sponge, sauce was amazing best I had well done compliments to the chef. Food & drinks: Food drink they had plenty selection of drinks, the food was home cooked the Fish and chips the chips were fluffy inside, and they had great after taste very nicely cooked.

We really enjoyed our 1 night at the George Inn. The room was spacious with everything necessary for a comfortable stay. The bed was a little hard. The food in the restaurant was very good with a reasonable selection of options for all courses. All the staff were very helpful and friendly.
