Stopped for lunch, very nice food and lovely pub so would recommend. Only seemed to be 1 person behind bar, 1 person bringing food to table. Amazing service and great food but pub was very busy. Bar staff were brilliant but need some help. I hear pub only opened last week so early days but would go back every day of the week. Good luck !
Booked a table for me and my wife for Sunday lunch. I ordered the beef as did my wife. My wife is quite petit so she had the child's option which wasn't on the menu we were handed upon arrival, but is however on the website. When the food appeared, straight away I noticed apart from an extra piece of beef on my plate, we had exactly the same amount of food my wife actually had a smaller sized plate as well. When I queried this with our waiter he said he will ask the chef about it. The waiter came back 5 minutes later and said the chef had made a mistake and shouldn't have put as much food on my wife's plate. Hilarious! What a load of nonsense. 3 Small roast potatoes, 2 Carrots, 1 Yorkshire and a touch of red cabbage. Topped off with very fatty beef which had to be trimmed away and some gravy. Thankfully we had ordered a side of pigs in blankets 6 at an extra cost of £4 and some cauliflower cheese £3.50 as well which helped our hunger pangs. Considering it was £18 and £9 just for the beef dinner respectively, the portion sizes were a joke! Just charge loads of money and give you hardly any food. Add in two cokes and the bill which automatically adds 10% gratuity was £45. The food did taste nice so 2 stars for that but it's safe to say we won't be returning here anytime soon, as I like to feel I've had a decent meal when I leave a restaurant. RIP OFF!
Nice pub to stop at on a country walk. Beer garden and plenty of indoor seating with a fireplace. We only had pints but the menu sounded good. Dog friendly and a cute water station for them
Beautifully decorated pub, with a large courtyard dining area plus grassy garden, set back from the main road. Plenty of parking and good adherence to Covid guidelines! We ordered food, waiting over an hour for it to be served, although it was a bank holiday, so not really surprising. Pizza was delicious, plenty of cheese, just wish the toppings were more plentiful and covered the entire pizza! Very family-friendly place, too.
We were passing through the area so stopped off here for some lunch. The food was great and we sat in the garden which was lovely. Prices were reasonable too. Would definitely recommend.Rooms: 5/5
Lovely pub, lovely staff, but very small menu and not suitable for people on gluten free diet. The menu does not match their website. The only thing they could do for a pudding for me was fruit salad!
First time since under new ownership, and will be surprised if this place stays open for much longer. I Immediately noticed a change in atmosphere since I last visited, with all of the local ales and bottled Bristol beer factory beer no longer to be seen. Very limited draught beer, opted for an IPA which was a staggering £6 a pint! Can't see how this price is justifiable for a mass produced basic IPA. We came primarily to eat, and the menu did look appealing, with dishes reflecting home cooked pub meals. We ordered the double burger and a sirloin steak. The burger was £15 and tasted okay but nothing special - but had 2 quite small patties rather than regular sized, so felt a bit mislead by that. The sirloin steak as written on the menu should have been served with bloody Mary tomatoes and pardon peppers. However, when it arrived, it was served with simple grilled half tomatoes and the padron peppers appeared to have just been placed on the grill for a minute -they were not cooked properly and had no oil/salt as they are meat to be prepared. The main issue was that the steak, whilst cooked as we had requested medium rare, had a slight sour taste to it and was most probably past its best. The "skin on fries" were simple oven chips. Simply not good enough for £25. We did raise these issues with the serving staff when asked how our food was, but no action was taken. Unfortunately, the offering at this establishment is very poor value for money, and there are now better and cheaper pubs in Backwell. Note: I had previously this place at 4* - this is an updated review following the change of management and my recent visit.
Bit of a conflab with the manager over an oxidised bottle of red wine. I know what a Zinfandel tastes like and it's not fortified wine or sherry. Suspiciously the wine was brought to the table already opened, so perhaps it had been sitting around for some time. He reluctantly credited it but I should not have even had to argue the case. I've owned restaurants for 27 years and have a well developed sense of customer service. Secondly, the "crispy" pork loin was anything but "crispy". Chewy, yes, but not "crispy". However, due to the above I couldn't be arsed to highlight the fact. I really want The George to be good as it's local and convenient. But there needs to be some serious sock pulling-upping especially with the revamped Rising Sun just down the road and receiving some flattering responses. On the upside the young female waiters were doing their best, just need to be invested in with a bit more training.
Have been there twice. The first time with the family. Got a carvery/roast dinner. There was a centipede in the cauliflower and brocoli cheese. Figured okay clearly they don't use chemicals on there produce. Went back last night on a date. £42 for 2 small burgers and chips with 1 drink each. To then be served pink chicken. When we made them aware. They told us its been cooked to 75°c and there's nothing they was willing to do. Told them we wasn't eatting it. Paid the bill in full and left. Never again would I go there. Nore would I recommend it.
Lovely establishment, cosy and warm & friendly staff! And of course, delicious food! Would recommend 100%
