Booked last minute as a stop over in our camper van. No actual camper facilities but we knew that from the beginning, we just wanted a nice place to eat for dinner and stay over before completing the rest of journey home the next morning. Service from staff was excellent. Food was spot on and definitely exceeded ‘pub’ standard! When paying for dinner we also booked for breakfast which again was spot on. Will definitely come back at some point when visiting the lakes and may even use it as a stop over if we’re travelling past again
Really great value hotel! And dog friendly Our room was well appointed and clean, with modern furnishings. And the pub downstairs served surprisingly great food! The staff we met were all so lovely too! We will definitely come back!
Great location if you want to explore the lakes. We used this hotel as a stopover travelling from West coast hideaways a beautiful shepherds hut in the Highlands of Scotland back to west Wales. The staff were very welcoming and attentive and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The room was small and a little cramped as it was one of the attic rooms however the cost was less than half the price of other hotels in the area. Thoroughly recommend this hotel.
A lovely place to eat just on the outskirts of Kendal. The food was delicious, well presented and the portion sizes were just right. The only aspect that could have been slightly improved was the service. When we arrived we were immediately seated at our table, but it did take a bit of time before our drinks order was taken and the wait for food was longer than I would expect. Apart from that, we had a great time and would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area.
We stayed 2 nights at Gateway and it was all fab! The staff are kind and attentive! The food in the restaurant was delicious! Didn’t try the breakfast but wish we had! The rooms are lovely, decorated and cleaned very well! They are completely dog friendly which meant Fred could enjoy himself without getting judgy looks and I didn’t have to either carry him everywhere. Felt safe and homely! Overall fantastic experience in a gorgeous setting! P.s Don’t be put off by the distance from the road, you can’t hear a thing!
Wow, that’s all I can say. Me and my Fiancée called in today on the off chance they had any tables. We were welcomed by the bar manager who showed us to our table. It was quite busy when we called in but they still found us a table. We both had the Chicken Ballantine which was exceptional we were going to have a starter and dessert but they were such generous portions plenty on the plates we wouldn't have fitted them in Lovely atmosphere with friendly efficient staff and a lovely pint of thawites. Excellent menu.Would definitely recommend this place.
Very disappointed with lunch. Had fish finger sandwich ,waited 45 mins for it to arrive ,was barely warm the batter very very thick and greasy, so much so that the bread had soaked up all the fat. There was hardly any fish in the fish fingers at all. I told the staff and they agreed that I wouldn't pay ,which I wasn't going to anyway. Then we weren't given the option of a dessert and when we were leaving I mentioned it ,to which the the waitress said " you were all busy chatting so we didn't think you wanted one " We did ,and would have been nice to be asked. To top it all the dining room was really cold and the toilets freezing ,even hand drier blowing cold air ! Don't think we will bother giving it another try ,shame really, was very good last autumn.
Didn't actually eat here, booking system was terrible so we weren't booked in, we were booked in to the Fleece. The girl working at Gateway was most unhelpful and insisted we hadn't made a booking. The manager sorted it and we'd booked into the Fleece at Kendal. I was glad in the end because we had an excellent meal there.
Food was delicious staff really friendly and made you feel welcome and comfortable, didn't stay so can't comment on the rooms but worth checking out as such a lovely location and restaurant, bar and staff amazing well done xFood: 5/5
