Great cosy and welcoming pub! Park just opposite for free in the evening, or near now closed DLI for free. Very stylish decoration, giving new life to the vintage furniture, yet not looking shabby. The staff is very helpful. Can make you your favourite drinks, alcoholic or just very good quality tea. Haven't tried food yet, but I shall soon. Love this place!
Never been in, all the years I've lived on Durham. What a lovely pub! All the staff were friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely go back again. Fab!! X
Horrible place. There were 11 of us, we pre-ordered, and yet had to wait for everything incredibly long. Food was late, sauces, stuffing, etc were served when the meal was finished, some of our guests haven't been served their food when others have already finished. There was mud on my salad leaves, the toilets were freezing who would keep the windows open in the loo when it's minus 6 outside?. All in all, not happy and won't be going back.
We booked a table thinking it'd be so busy, unfortunately we were the only couple in the restaurant area. The staff were friendly & attentive, the pizzas were tasty albeit a tad expensive. The menu only offered pizza, had we realised that before our visit we probably would have chosen elsewhere. The chairs are are little uncomfortable as they've no pads/ padding. Will we visit again? Mmm, maybe? If a more varied menu is on offer & maybe some quiet music in the background to give a better ambience.
Lovely Sunday lunch was had with our family of seven. Quality food and drinks at reasonable prices served with friendly staff. A lovely clean place.
Food was ok, we were there for a Christmas meal and our party was split across two very cramped tables while another group had a lovely long table, which was a little annoying. Soup was vile and flavours completely unidentifiable- everybody at our table ended up leaving it uneaten which for some reason didn't even warrant a query from the waiter- while the rest of the food was ok, but a little pretentious with relatively little substance. Overall though, the service was decent and the waiter friendly, although it was hard to serve our food with us so cramped up. Parking was very very crowded and difficult to get to- I think next time we'd just park on the street and pay rather than try and squeeze into the tiny carpark. Generally though, I think if you avoid special occasions/busy periods it might be a pleasant place to visit once in a while.
Lovely pub. Very cosy, nice atmosphere. Food was lush. The girls serving/waiting were very friendly. Will definitely be back :
Staff are really friendly, but it was like doing a shop at iceland food wise. Everything is clearly cooked from packaged frozen goods. Lovely place to call for a drink, but the food is pretty terrible. Shame as it used to be really fresh, professional chef style menu & food. Obviously been taken over reasonably recently by tight new owners that don't care about quality food
AMAZING FOOD! It's a great pub. The staff are friendly and helpful, but the food is the star here. The lovely chef knows her stuff! Try the buttermilk pork belly with maple and apple sauce and bubble squeak. It's the best main course you'll find in Durham right now!
Really disappointing. We have drank here for years. Great location but landlords have not always been as good. Made arrangements to meet son and daughter in law tonight for a couple of pints and some food. Asked to order food to be told the manager was stressed and couldn’t handle any more orders so had closed the kitchen 1h 40 mins early because he couldn’t cope!!! We ordered crisps as we were hungry only to see a huge plate of chips being delivered to a table next to us. We asked if food was back on but we were told no they were friends of the manager. One very quick way to loose your customers.
