The French by Simon Rogan
"Modern British cooking with a North West accent, from a chef going back to his roots.Every ingredient we use is, quite simply, the best we can get our hands on with no compromises at any stage. We source locally wherever possible, but also are not opposed to look further afield for superior flavours when necessary. Our ingredients are simple, but the overall flavours we achieve by carefully combining them is anything but."

What a great experience this was. The food was incredible from start to finish. The apple dessert was one of the best desserts I've ever eaten. Every dish was well thought out and by the end I was absolutely stuffed! It was all finished off with a thoughtful touch of a signed menu to celebrate my graduation. I'd definitely recommend.
First dining experience for quite some time. Located in the Midland Hotel, this restaurant provided a wonderful succession procession of tastes, flavours and textures. Mid week and not so busy but the staff were attentive and helpful. Done a few tasting menus over the years and this was one of the more expensive but was well worth it. No complaints. Highlights were the scallops with blood orange, and the rhubarb dessert. Excellent!
We had the tasting menu, about 17 courses. We sat down at 7pm and departed at 11pm. The staff were all fantastic and very helpful. It was a belated 80th birthday present for my wife. It was paid for by her sister, family and friends in Switzerland. We weren't disappointed. Please pass on our thanks to all the staff for making it very special. Chris and Dorothy Massey.
My partner and I went here with a friend and his wife to do the taster menu. His wife is gluten intolerant and they catered for this with gluten free options. This was a ten course meal with each and every dish is presented and served to the highest standard, the chiefs talk you through each one explaining how and what makes the dish as they serve it to you. Obviously each dish is bite size but full of flavour. We also paid for the wine pairing including the non alcoholic option. Both of these are quite expensive but they have chosen very nice wines to match each dish. The non alcoholic one was very refreshing, a mix of fruit drinks. I was impressed all round it was definitely a special treat. I'd go as far to say if this restaurant was in London and not Manchester it would be michelin star rated.
This place is something else!!! we have eaten at restaurants with a star and the food and dining experience here is so much better, such a lovely dining room, food comes out at a nice pace, and it put of this world..... already booked to come back!
Beautiful restaurant. Amazing food and the service was top notch. Thank you! Highly recommended!!!
I’ve been to a few Michelin starred places, and can say that this place is definitely up there with them. The courses get better and better, I love the northern theme too. I didn’t take photos as I was enjoying it all too much. Not sure I would do the wine flight again, but I did enjoy it and it all paired well. My favourite courses were the duck or the cheese with truffle and honey. The service and surroundings were great too. Definitely would recommend for a special occasion or if you have the money for it.
Wow - what an incredible restaurant. We had the Signature Experience and what an experience it was! We arrived at 8pm and departed at 11:30pm; which was enough time to feel entirely relaxed and to soak it all in. The food, where to star single course was meticulously thought out, from the presentation, how it was delivered, the eloquent descriptions and of course the mind-boggling tastes - just wow. Particular highlights were the ‘fish pie’ - simply one of the most, if not the most, incredible things we’ve ever eaten. Also the duck, the halibut and the fresh scallops, though it was all exceptional. The staff were all attentive, friendly and efficient and really made the evening what it was. To top it all off, our sommelier was brilliant - and you might just recognise who he is… I’ll leave that there! Highly highly recommend and the best food experience we’ve ever had.
An amazing experience, food and service were amazing, the food definitely was the highlight. EVERY dish we tried was just too good, flavor, idea, presentation, vessel, cooking point, garnishes, texture,... just wow! Highly recommended for the ones that look for really smart and executed food! The only downer was the potential manager that was running the restaurant that night, was the only element that lacked finesse, maybe should be slightly more friendly. Removing and placing plates at the table, was just too careless, which clashed with the rest of the team. Never the less, the rest was so good, that it would always take a great score. One of the most surprising meals this year, for the consistency throughout the all night. Thank you
Booked the Great British Menu for a lunch time birthday meal, with wine flights. The whole experience was fantastic, knowledge and friendly staff, excellent service and as expected the food was delicious. The accompanying wines were perfect selections for the dishes. I'll be coming back to sample the signature tasting menu on the evening
