Really interesting gallery. Well worth a visit. Upstairs galleries closed when we there because of rail strike, but some great Victorian paintings. Visit the library next door to see a fabulous series of embroideries. Excellent craft works for sale in shop below the cafe.
So pleased I visited and saw some of Eileen Agar's work. The gallery itself is truly beautiful, from the tiled cafe to all the stained glass in other areas. Make sure you visit if you're in Leeds!
The gallery wasn't as large as I expected; mostly due to alot of the sections being closed off. The gallery was crowded and there was alot of young people rather than old. There were some interesting pieces and there was art styles that varied over a few centuries: mostly around 17th century to modern day art included. It didn't take long to view everything - pretty much finished the entire gallery in about 30-40 minutes.
I found this art gallery really interesting, showcasing different types of art and even creative pieces done by visitors! A special exhibit was up for the autumn that was amazing, the staff were friendly and toilets had cleanliness maintained.
A small, well maintained gallery with an interesting diversity of works on exhibit. Also has a fantastic cafe attached, perfect for a nice tea.
Great place to visit and free entry! They had two very unique exhibitions while I was there, as well as traditional pieces. There's a nice Grimshaw collection held here
Went with my best friend, had lots of laughs. Nice atmosphere for a Sunday. Didn’t have the brain space to focus on contemporary displays but did love the old stuff.
A fantastic place to visit when in Leeds. Every room is another chance to feel inspired and think differently. And even the installation of a new show is an artwork in itself! And it costs nothing to experience something so special too.
The permanent collection is beautiful and quality is high. They have both 19th century and 20th century art on display. You will find art by world renowned artists such a Fantin-Latour, Matisse, James Tissot, John Atkinson, Grimshaw, John Everett Millais, Frederic Leighton and Auguste Rodin. Access is FREE for everyone which is wonderful. There is no reason not to visit! They also have a great cafe and a beautiful Public Library attached.
Lovely historic tiled hall cafe, unfortunately no hot food on Sunday. Sculptures - gorman statue, victorian Pre-Raphaelite, and modern works, art installations with audio. Fantastic shop downstairs, notice from outside but could be easily missed. Yorkshire souvenirs on sale. Go!
