Very nice restaurant. Party of 12 for lunch so we pre-ordered from the set menu at £35 per head. All choices were delivered correctly and in good time, can't complain! The food was very well presented and prepared maybe the chicken in the supreme was a bit overcooked or sat a little while but no biggie. Good choice of wines, beers and soft drinks. Well made coffee to finish. Excellent attentive serving staff and we really appreciated the bowl of chips! Thanks for making our family meal a great one. Vegetarian options: With the set menu, veggie options for every course. Parking: Pretty big car park but it was full when we arrived. Overflow is on the road outside which isn't that busy.
Finally after 2 years we could come back to this lovely pub restaurant. Their service and foods are still at the high standard as before. Especially there is a new staff who has just started to work yesterday and I would like to give 5 star for his hospitality. I hope I would see him again next time of my visit. Today's special fish was amazingly delicious and fresh. Thank you for the New year treat discount, too. I deeply appreciate it. Strongly recommend for all occasions even with dog.
Fabulous hidden gem of a pub in a small village. We can in the evening so didn’t get a chance to see the amazing and huge garden in all its glory but certainly will be coming back during the day! Service was fantastic and attentive, food delicious and plentiful. The price is a notch higher than most gastropubs but it’s well worth it.
Lovely pub with great food and a large selection of drinks. Enjoyed my experience there. Staff are awesome. Parking is plenty. Would recommend.Food: 5/5
My favourite pub in Oxford. Very special pub as this is where my husband proposed to me on the bridge over the river at the bottom of this lovely pubs garden. It's a very romantic setting. There's a teepee in the garden for hire or seating when not booked. Food is very good, a little pricey now though. Staff were friendly and very helpful. They have a dedicated gluten free menu which is great. Highly recommended. Dietary restrictions: Dedicated gluten free menu
Had been a while since I visited The Fishes, we had a great experience. The staff were really friendly, so helpful with our requirements, kids and adults! They were patient, food was delicious and we felt really relaxed. Kid-friendliness: Very helpful with high chairs, setting them up, options for kids meals. They have a big garden area so the little ones could run round and explore. Parking: Lots of parking available, although it can get busy very quickly.
We hosted our post-wedding Sunday lunch at the Fishes this summer. Communication with the team was excellent by email and phone. On the day, both the food and service was excellent! The team did well to manage our large group booking and created more space for us as we received additional guests to the party. We were very grateful to them for accommodating us all! We enjoyed a wonderful atmosphere and time together - it was a highlight for many of our guests. Thank you to all at the Fishes! We’ll be back again!
We stayed in an Airbnb across the road from The Fishes so naturally wanted to check it out during our stay in Oxford. We managed to book a table in the bar on Friday night restaurant was full and returned on Sunday afternoon for their Sunday Lunch. Both occasions were a delight. The food was outstanding, the service excellent. The staff really made us feel welcome without being overbearing and nothing was too much trouble.
The food was good, but the ordering by app instead of by waiter at The Fishes was a major pain. It didn't work very well. The wait staff was friendly enough, but the experience fell flat. After I first posted this review, my husband reminded me that, when we arrived at the restaurant, we were directed to take any one of several available outdoor tables, none of which had been cleared and were in fact littered with cigarette butts, dirty dishes and trash under the table. We had to flag someone down to clean the table top and place our order. I noticed that the wait staff would bring out food and drink then go straight back inside after serving their cargo without looking around to see what tables needed to be cleared. My daughter and son in law said The Fishes was fine before the pandemic and that the restaurant might be sorting out some changes.
Fantastic - one of our favourite pubs near Oxford. Some lovely walks through woods and along streams / rivers to get there. And not too far for a taxi home. So location is great. Feels very country, while being close to the city. Excellent food!
