Old Bookbinders Ale House

About

Jericho's best kept secret since 1869

Story

The Old Bookbinders Ale House is a much loved gem of Jericho with many happy memories for many local residents. Whilst you have many pubs to choose from in Jericho none quite have the feel and atmosphere of The Bookies is blessed with.

A short 15 minute walk from Gloucester Green Bus Station, The Bookies is tucked away in the back end of Jericho. Walking down to the end of Cranham Street you'll find us on the left hand side, right next to the canal.
Unfortunately parking in Jericho is notoriously bad, so it may be worth leaving the car on Walton Street in one of the on street pay bays.

We were looking for a taste of France in Oxford and were so pleased with what we found! The food was beautiful puddings especially!, atmosphere and decor was lovely, and staff couldn't have been nicer.
My local but that aside this is a pub you should visit, whether it be for the beer badges on the walls, the great staff or the excellent food. I do mean excellent food, daily specials all fresh and me favourite burger. Come in as a customer leave as a friend.
Highly recommend this place! Great ambience and amazing drink and food. Best burger I've had for a while, and everyone loved their dishes too. Fair value for money as well.
Really cozy and welcoming place. Service is great. Food is exceptionally delicious. Highly recommend the fish.
A return visit to this incredible eatery and pub in Jericho. The food offering is broad and delicious, with decent ale on tap. The staff are friendly and the owner manager is a delight. Not having booked on a Saturday night we ate at an outside table and loved it as much as always.
Very nice souffle special. Great beer. Inside the tables are spaced well for covid but I do not know if the ventilation is good, given the place has got some history.
Staff are really friendly. Atmosphere is always good. Always have a drink or two in there when I'm in Oxford. Love it!!
Friendly staff, efficient service, good crepes and beer.
Brimming with character and with a carefully selected French menu with a few Asian fusion dishes, this is a really nice place, worth a visit
