Our second visit for dinner, bed and breakfast and definitely not our last. Love the relaxed atmosphere and the fact that it's really a pub first. The food is creative and interesting, with lots of seasonal fruit and veg from the garden go and have a stroll around after dinner. Breakfast is terrific, with lots of local juices, preserves and yoghurt, as well as a really appealing selection of hot dishes. Service is really friendly and charming, and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are country chic and nicely appointed, but be aware that this is an old building close to a road and noise does carry. If you are a light sleeper definitely take earplugs.
An excellent pub with great food and a warm atmosphere. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating of a party that was 25 in number. Thank you for having us - we will be back!Service: 5/5
Stayed here for 3 nights in Early September 2022 with a group of car club friends, exploring the Brecons. A great inn with ample parking and good rooms. Dinner for our group of 12 was provided in one of their two private rooms on each of the 3 nights, and head chef Nick did us proud. The menu changes many of its elements on a daily basis, and the quality of the cooking was first rate. The wine list is good value too, with excellent, less well known offerings available - all at good value prices. Service from the staff was always professional, accommodating and friendly, and the overall experience for our whole group was excellent. Room 8 on the 2nd floor is large and very roomy with a super king sized bed and bathroom plus separate shower room with WC. While there are no TVs in the rooms, the WiFi allows for connectivity to iPlayer or SkyGo should that be desired.
Great atmosphere, lovely service, absolutely delicious food. The fish pie starter was amazing and the chips and garlic mayo were sensational!

Ok. The law of diminishing returns hit us on our visit. We are fans of the EDS group visiting the two other locations in Cornwall Far West. The reputation is built on the food and at the Cornish sites they hit the mark. We were in South Wales for a wedding so it gave us the opportunity to visit the Griffin on the way home and complete the set. Unfortunately during our visit they had an issue with the kitchen extractor so the food offering was compromised. Nevertheless they still managed to offer food albeit with a different/reduced menu. My issue though is with the timing of notification. We received an email on the morning of our arrival informing us of the kitchen issue. However once at the hotel, we discovered the extractor had failed the day before. So it begs the question why we were not notified the day of failure? The cynical part of me says that decision would be to stop us cancelling. So a disappointing visit overall.
Glad we booked ahead for lunch as on the day of our visit a number of walk-ins were unfortunately turned away as fully-booked. This time we visited with friends and had a warm and friendly welcome. Have given a 5* this time as there have been some improvements to the tableware since our last visit - food was also as good as previous visit. A good selection of quality, tasty and well-presented food, including plant-based options, on the menu.
Fantastic gastro pub surrounded by beautiful countryside. Will definitely book again if in the area and need a place to stay with great food.Rooms: 5/5
