Visited the Dutchie for lunch at Croydon with some friends. The food came in good portions and was very tasty. The various types of chicken wings were all delicious. I ordered the lobster as a main dish, which I felt was a bit over cooked and too chewy, and the shell was hard to crack as it was not brittle. They were accommodating about changing fries to rice as an accompaniment. Cocktails were 2 for 1 at the time we went, so that was a good deal. The food was reasonably priced, and the staff were polite. They were happy to provide a container for left overs for take away. I loved the decor with the tricolours of red, gold, and green, and the graffiti. The music was great comprising of reggae and 90s r'n'b. It would be easier to find the restaurant if there is a sign at the entrance of the Arcade pointing to The Dutchie as it can easily be missed. Overall, it was a good experience.
I have been here many time the food here really nice not to mention their 241 cocktail that they do everyday. The staff are really friendly. I do prefer this one compared to the one in Camberwell. Definitely come here
Visited for some after work drinks. I had not been to dutchies in years maybe 2 or 3. And I was really looking forward to the Dutchie burger however my burger was pink so I sent it back. The Plantain was also tough. I ordered boneless jerk chicken and chips as a replacement and it was quite tasteless.. it just tasted like smoke although the chicken was very tender. Not really impressed. The drinks were okay though although I feel they have reduced in size … but 2 for 1 you can’t go wrong.
I’m only giving a one star because my first experience it was awful. For a Friday evening, 3 different cocktails were requested but wasn’t available due to lacking of ingredients. Ended up getting something I didn’t want! There was no “SALAD” and both my partner and I didn’t think the food was nice nor tasty. The service was very slow, staff went by swearing, hissing teeth and clearly had enough. The food was “OK” presentation wise and for the price we paid, it should have been a 5/5. Would we go back “NO”
Went for a friends birthday meal, seated very quickly, drinks arrived quickly same with starters however mains took a long time to come 2/3 came then still had to wait for the 3rd meal. My MAIN: Oxtail tasted very sweet, very fatty and a lot of bones & Gravy. Staff wasn’t moved by me showing them, this put me off the meal.
Check this, I paid £4 for “fresh lemonade”. At lease mention 7up. Haven’t even got to my food yet and my blood is boiling. Update: the food curry goat rice is actually really good. Worth it! But guys please don't falsely advertise, ain’t nothing fresh about 7up.
In store, Bought & paid for the boneless mutton curry to takeaway. It was an hour or two before closing. We was told the takeaway would be ready in 45 mins so we popped up the road until it was ready. Upon our return we collected the takeaway and headed back out to our destination. As we were preparing to eat to our disappointment & disbelief the boneless mutton dish was full of bones at the cost of £17.50. I had recommended this dish to my friend so it was very uncomfortable to see that the dish was nothing like what the dutchie's promised it'd be boneless. I though maybe it had been a mistake so we drove back to the restaurant to get a replacement, this is where it took a turn for the worse. When we knocked on the door the server hid and pretended not to see us or hear us knocking the door. We had to keep knocking until a manager came out and opened the door. We explained what had happened & he let us in to get the order corrected. However the chef was very unprofessional & got rather nasty towards us. The replacement order was full of curry liquid with a few pieces of curry mutton swimming in the container. It took 5 minutes to get a replacement so it wasn't fresh food. Upon leaving the establishment the chef & management shouted such rude & undignified comments towards me & my friend who's first time it was in this restaurant as we made our way out of the establishment. We left feeling humiliated, hurt & traumatised. It was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant & we couldn't bring ourselves to eat the food because we just didn't trust the dutchie staff anymore.
Very disappointed, I ordered two strawberry smoothies and only received one. The garden salad was advertised on the menu to include avocado, there was no avocado. Absolutely poor.
What good food should taste like. Very impressed and will be ordering again but they need to up their plantain game as it is way too dry and can be fried a little longer and sweeter.Recommended dishesFestiballs, Boneless Jerk Chicken
Delicious, flavoursome food with some lovely drinks as well. Each time I have come here I have had an amazing time, the food never fails. Definitely one of the best Jamaican restaurants in Croydon. Would highly recommend.
