The food on 1st April 2017 was excellent but the service wasn't as good. Ordered food with drinks and had to wait over 25 minutes for drinks and it wasn't as if the place was packed. The manager blamed a new waiter but in general the service was poor. Plates with food left on tables and the one time staff should've asked if "everything is alright with food & service"? we were left alone! The waiter that didn't bring our drinks then decided to leave our plates on the table after we told him we had finished. 2 for 1 cocktails was a good deal but one of the listed cocktails wasn't able to be served because apparently they had run out of rum, good food though.
I went for a meal here twice and me and my girlfriend were disappointed both times. We ordered a jerk burger the first time and it was thin and bland. We thought we'd give it another go but were left disappointed again. The portions could be bigger and more flavoursome. Its a but over priced for what it is. On a positive note, it has a friendly vibe, good music and nice atmosphere but their food needs improving.
The food was amazing had a curry goat rice and peas which exceeded my expectations. Then I had a simple waffles and ice cream for my desert. In this experience where less is more it wasn't to full, very light, fluffy and a perfect way to end a meal. The music was great the staff were kind. Overall I would recommend CaribSoul to everyone.
Myself and my friend went for dinner last Sunday, I thought I would treat her. The place is nice and casual, were greeted by a friendly member of staff, the atmosphere was nice. We ordered our food and drinks. The food did not match the price, I had Jerk Pork, served with rice and peas, and a portion of chips, my friend ordered Escovitch fish, rice and peas. The rice and peas, were very bland, couldn't taste any coconut or seasoning. The Jerk pork was very nice, I had Pineapple punch nice but very sweet, had desert 2 very small pieces of chocolate cake that I could of bought from the local supermarket, also low grade ice cream. You have to make up your own mind about the restaurant, this is just my comment about our experience on that day.
It's very refreshing to see a black owned restaurant in Croydon, it's about time. Just love the food, very well flavoured and professionally presented on the high street. and also the staff are always working hard to please the customers and provide wonderful customer service with a smile on their face. At the moment I just finished eating the jerk chicken and it tasted. A place that you must go and visit. Just seasoned perfectly and the rice and peas are just amazing
Pros: Went to Caribsoul last night for my birthday with my husband. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the food was delicious and big portions, my cocktail was really nice, price was reasonable, the atmosphere was relaxing and music was great, I'm really looking forward to visiting again and I will spread the word to friends. Cons: It would have been nice for one of the waiters to come and ask how our meal was going, if we needed anything and also to come and clear our plates once we'd finished.
I came here with my family and the food was amazing! It was tasty and delicious - everyone enjoyed. Service was good - all staff were polite and friendly which was unexpected to find in Croydon, food came quickly, good sized meals, and the restaurant was very clean. There was such a great vibe - music was good, and had iconic and traditional art work all around the restaurant. Finally we have an excellent Caribbean restaurant that we can eat and enjoy ourselves in like you would Pizza Express or Nandos. It is quite high-end for a Caribbean restaurant, I must say. Definitely going to come back when in the area! Will recommend it to all my family and friends. I wish them all the best and success!
I had an EXCELLENT experience at CaribSoul. As soon as I walked into the restaurant I was greeted very politely and given a table. When I decided what I wanted to order, the gentleman who i found out was the owner went out of his way to provide me with a great service. In fact, his approach set the tone for the rest of my time there which I have to say was on par to any posh restaurant you'll find in the city. All of the staff were warm and friendly and the food was DELICIOUS! I had oxtail with rice and peas and unlike some Caribbean restaurants who give you 90% rice and 10% oxtail, I got a healthy serving on meat with which I was very happy. The bright, reggae vibe made me feel at home and the inspiration murals and pictures on the wall made you feel like this is more than a restaurant. 10/10 for food and service. If you want a GREAT experience with GREAT food then CaribSoul is a great choice!
I'd been looking forward to eating at CaribSoul since it opened and I really would love to say I enjoyed it, but it was just very disappointing. Me and a friend had a portion of the jerk chicken and rice which we found very spicy, to the point where you couldn't really appreciate the flavour of the jerk because of the heat and i'm quite partial to spice. The sauce that was over the chicken was also over the rice and salad that came with the chicken and so that was all they tasted of as well. In defence of the chicken it was cooked really well and was very juicy and tender, and the rice was also very well cooked. A portion of Mac and Cheese tasted alright but was tiny and very dry. I appreciate it is advertised as a side, but ultimately i don't think it was worth the cost. The plantain tasted nice and was well cooked, but incredibly greasy you could squeeze the grease out of it. The corn bread was quite nice, however, again the portion was absolutely tiny. On a similar theme the portion of gravy was much larger than a sachet of ketchup and definitely not worth the pound it cost! The collard greens were ok, although as with the plantain, very greasy. None of this was helped by the fact that by the time I got the takeaway home five minutes walk from the restaurant the food was already lukewarm at best. I don't think this was helped by the fact that several of the items I ordered sat on the side at the restaurant in their polystyrene containers for a good 10-15 minutes whilst the rest of the order was prepared. Ultimately in the end, whilst some of the food was ok, the cost and the portion sizes are what I feel really lets CaribSoul down. I understand that it's a family run restaurant and the more of these places Croydon has the better, and enjoying Caribbean and Soul Food I really wanted to love the food, but at the moment I can't. Hopefully with a bit of tinkering the food here can be really superb
My partner and I came here for a quick lunch. The place was quiet and service was quick. I ordered the meat jambalaya and my partner ordered the jerk chicken. The menu promised chicken, chorizo and prawns in my jambalaya. What came out was some soggy rice with cut up cheap frankfurters and a couple of tiny bits of chicken. It looked and tasted nothing like jambalaya so I said to the person who seemed to be in charge that my food didn't have prawns like on the menu, and asked him to check that the right dish came out. He said he would investigate. About 5 minutes later the waitress slammed literally slammed a bowl the size of an espresso cup down in front of me with some more soggy rice and a few bits of tiny prawns. It became clear immediately that the jambalaya and everything in it had just been heated up in the microwave from a cold or frozen state, and it initially came out without any prawns because the kitchen had just scooped a bit from a massive vat of "jambalaya" that happened to not have any prawns in it. My partner said his chicken was nothing special either. The jerk sauce was pretty poor. I felt completely insulted by the whole experience considering that we paid £25 for the 2 poor imitation dishes, drinks and terrible service. I left with my plate of food largely untouched. Would not recommend this place to anyone wanting decent food, never mind decent Caribbean food. Should have read the reviews before we came here - owner is rude and defensive on every negative review, big sign that they don't respect the customers.
