It is an amazing location. You can easily visit Highclere Castle, Winchester and Jane Austin’s house - but the real draw is the amazing canal/ riverside. Absolutely stunning. Our room opened right out onto a terrace by the water. The rooms were nice, and recently decorated. The housekeeping could’ve been better. One of the things I loved was the amazing water pressure. I could run a bath in less than two minutes! The food was fantastic - we had dinner and breakfast there and it was wonderful. There was a new group of staff who were really keen to build the place up and create a bit of a buzz around it. I wish them luck!
From the moment I arrived, to the moment I left Russell and Marnie made me feel so Welcome. The service was very attentive. A beautiful garden that was lovely to relax in. It was busy so drinks were slow being served but refreshing when I got them. When it was time to eat, we went inside and the atmosphere was relaxed. Not. Many tables but it was a sunny day. Great menu choice and quality of food that was excellent for the price. I didn't stay but I'm sure the rooms are great. Will definitely be back.
Fantastic food and service, the menu is full of real chef created dishes, the front of house staff completely knowledgeable regarding the allergens and preferences of the menu without having to 'pop off and enquire' and each encounter was met with a smiley, bubbly attitude. We ate inside due to the weather, but there are I think 6 pods outside, each very spacious. Overall the taste buds were thoroughly entertained, interactions delightful and wallets not worried in relation to the whole experience ;-. We thoroughly recommend dining here.
This is our fourth stay at the Dundas Arms in the last two years. The location alongside the canal and River Kennet is idyllic. A walk on the path opposite the pub and gardens to the next lock is one of my most favourite walks in England for its nature and sense of stepping back in time. You do have to make way for the shire horse pulling a canal boat from occasionally :- It’s great that many parts of the inn are being redecorated under its new chain owners. The beer remains good, and the bar staff friendly. The restaurant food is a notch above many and pretty reliable. The rooms are clean and well appointed and many but not all of the broken lightbulbs have been replaced! One or two members of staff have not been properly trained to welcome and look after guests. Unfortunately, this sets a poor tone for the whole establishment, as we felt like we were just being a problem whenever we interacted. However, we will no doubt try the Dundas Arms again as it is a great stopover from the North to the South West.
We went to the restaurant on Tuesday 11th June 24. What can I say! The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The waiting staff were so friendly, attentive and informative without being overbearing a skill in itself. Our whole evening was just perfect and finished our day off brilliantly………….thank you! Service: 5/5
Went to the Dundas for a midweek lunch. Food is good but quite pricey. Disappointed that the lovely main garden was not open. Was not impressed by the service offered by one of their more senior members of staff - they seemed rather grumpy and were not welcoming at all. We also asked for a coffee after our lunch, but this certain staff member said that they wouldn’t do it as they were too busy - but 5-10 minutes later, they walked past our table carrying some coffees to other customers without mentioning anything to us. Service really needs to improve with some simple courtesy and politeness.
Despite having been severely short staffed, Russell and the team were very polite and friendly during our Sunday lunch today and were able to successfully provide our table of eight with delicious hot food and a smile. We were prepared for delays with our food but it still arrived in good time. The venue is perfectly situated for a relaxing Sunday lunch and we would definitely go back if we were in the area again.
Location is great and central, next to a train station and plenty of car parking spaces. Just like a pub, you have to wait to be served. The interior was nice, and they also had outdoor seating which is nice during good weather. We just had drinks. I wanted a J2O which didn't exist there so had another juice that wasn't as good. I was sick though so it could have affected my taste/ mood in general. The place was comfortable and friendly.
We arrived 15th April for our three night stay. The greeting we received from Ross was friendly and welcoming. Her daughter Louise has the same wonderful traits. Both ladies are so hard working and seem to be capable of dealing with most situations from front of house to house keeping even dealing with trade people and deliveries. Certainly multi tasking. Well done! management should certainly value you. With regards to location, the immediate environment is beautiful with a river and canal along side, the building has a charming historical atmosphere, like going back in time. We love the relaxed easy going way of life here. Give it a try,
A stunningly located pub with great rooms and some the best service we’ve had. Nathan the GM is a superstar - eminently capable and kind - as were the whole team. We shall return ! Rooms: Very comfortable and nicely done
