At Dukes Seafood today I had some of the best seafood I have had ever. Dukes is a traditional seafood shed with counter and plenty of seating at the rear right by the sea. Amazing location. Staff are all lovely, and work so hard. We ordered mussels in cream and wine, oysters and sea bass, it’s was all just amazing. Can’t wait to go back.
I re Rally wanted to give 5 stars. I have been looking at this place for a while and decided to give it a go today. Went on my own as it was a spontaneous trip. Menu looked good and as you would expect. Queue was long again expected. Was slow. Not expected. Card machine did not work for most people so that delayed things a lot. As I was on my own I grabbed a table. However whilst in the queue waiting my table got taken, then another and another. Finally I got to order and was asked for my table number. I explained I had one but it had gone so I will take a table somewhere. She said I needed a number before she could serve me. I pointed out I too needed a table to eat. Clearly not going anywhere I took the table closest to me I could see the number. I guess if you are with a group not an issue so my advice is don’t go alone A notice of cash best would be great might speed things up. Food was good but I never quite understood the ‘crab sticks’ on the plate of fresh seafood. I mean what part of the fish or sea do these come from?? Also half a dressed crab on a clam shell isn’t really half a crab. I mean where were the claw and single leg It was nice I will go back but just my observations of the day. Pics attached.
I visited The Dukes Seafood on a Monday around midday, it was relatively quiet but I can imagine on a weekend it gets busy due to it's location on the water. I ordered three oysters, a crab/prawn/ocean stix wrap with salad and wedges plus a glass of medium white 'Summer Days' from the local Mersea Vineyard. The seafood was fresh and delicious and the staff were friendly also, the wine went down well too!
Great selection of shellfish. Specials also available. The bread served with the meals was tasty too. A shame chips not available as would finish off several of the meals. Kettle crisps are served instead. As outdoor under umbrellas or gazebos is weather dependent too. So good we went twice.
Great service . Great food . Too bad about the view when I visited but I m sure it will be great in the summer time. Suggest to park in town and walk down. Lovely short walk to the restaurant.Food: 4/5
Excellent place for shellfish and seafood. Everything was tasty specially the oysters. Definitely will be back.Food: 5/5
Attended a fish masterclass and loved it. What we prepared and ate was lovely oysters, herrings, codling etc and the class was fun and informative. Thoroughly recommend to anyone that likes fish and shellfish. Will definitely attend the next one.
Just a little "shed"? Type set up, but don't let this put you off! The oysters were nice and fresh, and the service was very good. There is a little table bench outside with room for four. I would definitely come back here again for a take way Food: 4/5
The food tasted really nice, just felt ripped off with the price for what we got. My wife and I got a baguette each expecting a proper size baguette but they were tiny baguettes like the ones you would get as a starter in a restaurant. Not enough for a lunch, go to the pub nearby instead for a lunch and come here if you want a snack. Prawn cocktail baguette £6 Crayfish baguette £6.50 What you see on this plate is £12.50 all together.
Thank you to the staff at Dukes for supporting our bike event this Saturday. Well established seafood cafe, outdoor seating with estuary views, recommended.Food: 5/5
