First time going here and I am really glad I did. I met a friend who was running late for tea. I ordered my drink at the bar and was shown to our table. My friend arrived and her drink order was taken and arrived promptly. We ordered our food and waited about 30 minutes, which I thought was very reasonable for freshly cooked grub. I ordered the Scampi and it came piping hot, very well presented with a fresh side salad and it all tasted delicious. We ordered deserts and they also arrived promptly, and tasted just as good as the main course. Devon, the barman, kept coming over to make sure everything was OK with us and all the other tables, making sure our glasses were never empty. I thought the prices for our meals were very reasonable and all in all it was a very enjoyable and friendly experience. We will be back soon
Great place been coming here for a long time. Food is always great, it was a little too early for the evening menu, so I opted for the scampi today. Great choice of beers. And had my first UK pint of JS in nearly 3 years lol. Well worth a visit if you pass. Great for families The staff are great and very pleasant. Will.be back for my steak next week.
Lovely cosy country pub. The decor is relaxing, comfy and the staff were all friendly and answered our questions about the food knowledgeably. The food was freshly cooked, well presented and tasted delicious, I had taken the peas off before I took the photo. We were spoilt for choice with the desert menu, but opted for the lemon roulade which was very tasty. Devon was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. We will be going back again without a doubt. Thank you for an great evening
Just terrible. Walked in at 6.30, ordered 15 minutes later, no one came to take our order so I ordered at the bar. I asked what the winter warmer menu was they had no idea, a man stood next to me not staff said it maybe as stew. I ordered 2 scampi, 1 gammon and a steak, 1 gin and tonic and a bottle of pinot plonk. 90 minutes later the food arrived., very grim 9 pieces of scampi, onion rings forgotten wrong peas, limp horrible salad. As soon as we had finished eating I decided pay the bill and leave. I was horrified at £101! I said this must be wrong, apparently the chips frozen aunt Bessie’s were £2 extra on top of the £18.95 steak, the waitress said well if you think it’s wrong I’ll take them off the bill, the menu said it came with chips. Next to the drinks, I was asked if we had 2 pints of dark fruits and a small wine. I said no so this was taken off the bill. I’m glad I challenged this, if not I would have been massively overcharged. Still £90 was far to much. Go to the Forge Valley inn, much better food and service. Complete shambles. Edit. This is how the food was served. The salad was given 5 minutes after the steak. The onion rings were forgotten then finally arrived 20 minutes later. We scampi was ordered one with mushy peas, one with garden, both were served with garden.
Had a fantastic meal here. Really was lovely food and the service was fantastic. The girl who served us was lovely and friendly and very helpful. They also were great regarding the gluten free allergy we had at our table. Timmy Taylor’s on tap which was superb and my steak was perfectly cooked. The garlic mushroom sauce was amazing. Highly recommend. Thank you
Was a really nice pub, really friendly and attentive staff, fair priced for the food. Can't complain about the food everything was delicious.
Lovely pub, delicious food. Even managed to squish us in last minute group of 7 on a bank holiday Monday. The staff were incredibly busy, so some seemed slightly overwhelmed, but there was a general feeling that they were all supporting each other in a positive way to keep things moving, and to keep everyone happy. The kitchen staff even popped out to serve on occasions. We had the roasts. And the children were even given a free EXTRA Yorkshire Pudding… how good is that. Kids love a Yorkshire Pud! So we love this Yorkshire Pub! Thanks!
Great food and generous portions. Really nice relaxed atmosphere. Sadly lacking a disabled toilet. Toilets are up a few stairs and won’t fit a wheel chair in, cubicles too small for two people my mum needs supporting to get on and off. Also no baby change unfortunately.
Delicious Sunday lunches, good value for money - £13.95 for roast beef, Yorkshire Puds, seasonal veg mix, mash and roast potatoes, friendly staff, lovely ambiance… and nice and clean. What more could you ask for. It does get busy, so book ahead if you can to avoid disappointment. Loads of parking at the rear.
We had a lovely meal here i was quite impressed. The staff were cheerful and friendly and the pub itself was nice and cosy inside. We would certainly visit again.
